Deck Description

A version of a Duskmantle/Mindcrank deck

How to Play

Can win as early as turn four. Transmute with the infiltrator to find combo pieces. I put in sword of body and mind for fun. If all else fails type of thing. Deck is vulnerable to almost everything. All or nothing strategy. Nevertheless, its fun. Input is welcomed and appreciated.

Deck discussion for Crank Mage

Yo there, just poping in to tell you that two mill-decks have won nice places in modern, meaning mill is now doable!
I've put the exact designs on my own "page", so go there and have a look if you wan't to try them out...

...I've checked out your decks. Very nice. It would seem that you had put some thought into 'em compared to my boring version. I took out Pilfered Plans for thought scours. Breakin/entering is not working as well as I had hoped. I took this deck to a modern tourney. did decent. You got any good ideas to maybe make it less vulnerable?

It really depends on what type of meta you are in...
What format? (modern/legacy) and what are your most troubling opponent's playing?

Aggro, control or combo?

Modern. Aggro and control give me fits. Thinking I need some counter/removal. Cosuming Aberration acts essentially as a flagbearer. Gets axed immediately. No one wants to deal with a 30/30. Allows me some time to get the combo off. I'm thinking Remand...stuff along those lines.

The best card against aggro so far connected to mill is crypt incursion. However it demands that either you or your opponent gets critters in the grave as fast as possible. I have had games where I got 28 life when drawing this card.

You might also want to replace 4 thought scour with either 4 jace's phantasm or 4 hedron crab.

I generally don't recommend counterspells in mill, but Remand is actually great if you play with surgical or extirpate AND you mill fast enough to hit what they have in their hand, otherwise it's just stall.

You got unblockables, so why not try to use the cipher spells that mill or create creatures?

Also, mesmeric orb has always been one of my favorite cards against creatures, and in your deck it may boost your own creatures. Your deck is mainly avoiding leyline of sanctity in general. Throwing 4 glimpse the unthinkable away for the orb might be a good idea, plus it will make you able to use crypt incursion on yourself.

Control is trickier to deal with, especially with a focus on creatures, A wild idea may be æther vial to slip through their counters. You could also try to exploit a mesmeric orb + bloodghast/corpsecrawler angle, trying to hit them from your grave.

Thank you for the advice. I cant believe that I overlooked Mesmeric Orb. I have most of these cards laying around. Ill update ya with my results. No doubt, they will be improvements.

Well, you'll never know untill you've tried it. That's magic in a nutshell. A constant work in progress.

Theros has some mill...

How about throwing out jace and buy Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver before it becomes too expensive ?
By the time jace get's to play his mill, ashiok have exiled 12 cards!

Theres also a 2/4 creature in theros for 3B (or is it 2BB?) that mills 4 when comming into play.

Yeah, I was thinkin' about Ashiok. I bought 4 packs the other day and pulled two of them , one of them foil so I jammed em in there. It was mean to be, I guess. So far I've pulled nothing but stormbreaths, thoughtseizes, elspeths, ashioks, and multiple fleecemane's'. Very good luck with theros for me. I also just completed a rough draft of a spirit deck that has been on my mind for a while. Check it out in my 'My Decks' page if you'd like. Up to you if you are bored or something.

Sorry about the disturbance.

I'm trying to establish a new trend in deckbuilding, and I'm inviting everyone I've come across to participate.

I hereby invite you to participate in a brand new trend in deckdesigning that might change the future of how to design decks.

Shortly told, there are two ways that new decktypes are made, the first is by designing something new, the second is by taking the best parts of two older decks, mix it together and you got a new decktype!!!

What I suggest is a turbo-version of mixing two different decktypes into a new one.

You simply split up existing designs into deckhalves (Called halfdecks) that are designed so that they keep as much of the origanal themes of a deck intact, and so that the half can be thrown together with almost any other halfdeck deigned in the future.

Splitting a deck up in two times 30 cards is not so easy as it sounds, so initially this trend will start out slowly, and if enough people adapt the idea it will probably explode into radical new decktypes made from decks designed with halfdecking in mind.

To get a better understanding of the concept you might need to take a look at the first 3 deckhalves I've made as examples. (Bear in mind that they were designed very roughly from memory)

I will improve these designs and add other deckhalves as fast as possible to start up the trend.

YOU, and everyone else that recieve this "spam" are welcome to start up your own version of this project, as it is intended to become everyones, and only by letting several minds work on it independently will it take on a better shape and spread out as a new deckbuilding tool.

Contact me at any time, with any questions you may have.

I only have one wish on how this new trend can be spread. If everyone involved tag their decks as halfdecks then the future halfdeck community may simply write halfdeck in the decksearching function to find what they are looking for!

A very inspired idea. I'm going to start tinkering around with this. I'll be sure to relay to you what results I generate.

I've assembled a page where I keep track of people building halfdecks!
Study some of the work there, then make your own addition :D
