Deck Description

Been fiddling around with Red/Green (and white) Land destruction for a good while now. This deck is pretty fun to play, obviously not top tier, but it is very strong, and very few people have seen it played before, giving an edge over much more common decks.

Very open to and interested in any thoughts you might have.

How to Play

The general strategy is to Utopia sprawl or mana dork turn 1, aim for a land destruction spell turn 2. While keeping the opponent with as few lands as possible, build up a solid manabase until you can go take them down with larger drops.

Some miscellaneous tips;
- Keep in mind that a turn 1 arbor elf followed by a turn two Utopia sprawl lets you play a four-drop turn two, usually acid-moss.
- Target your own fetches with the Boom half of Boom//Bust, then crack them to avoid losing a land.
- Remember the Acid moss can fetch stomping grounds if need be (be careful, however, as they will become mountains with a blood moon on the table.)
- Avoid enchanting a stomping ground with a utopia sprawl where possible, as it will fall off if you play a blood moon.
- If you're in a winning position with your creatures and want to make sure the opponent cant stop you, the bust half of Boom//bust that you've used previously can be played off of a Dark-Dwellers.
- A wolf run is often overlooked, and as this deck can build up a fair mount of mana a lowly mana dork can be beefed up for a fair amount of surprise damage if your bombs aren't around.

Deck discussion for They Don't need lands

Ah, Ponza. Such an awesome deck.

Just a rules update you obviously aren't aware of: As of the release of Amonkhet, you can no longer cheat the Bust half of Boom // Bust via Goblin Dark-Dwellers etb. The change in the rules made it so that both sides added together are checked for everything that checks a card's cmc, thus Goblin Dark-Dwellers now sees Boom // Bust as an 8 mana sorcery({1}{R}+{5}{R}), thus not a legal target for its etb. Yes, it sucks, I was using that trick too, but dems the rules.

Another note on Goblin Dark-Dwellers, but this time with Trinisphere. With Trini out, you still have to pay {3} to cast the spell off Goblin's etb.

Now for a personal preference: I do not like Bonfire of the Damned, I use Mizzium Mortars instead. Bonfire is only good off the Miracle trigger, and Ponza doesn't have a way to manipulate the top of your library. Double {X} is too expensive for my liking. Additionally, Bonfire must target the opponent to work, so if they can prevent that, it's a dead card. You also can't choose a value for the double {X} off Goblin Dark-Dwellers. Mizzium Mortars may not deal damage to the opponent, but it doesn't target when Overloaded, and can be recast off Goblin Dark-Dwellers (though without Overload).

Besides the Bonfire / Mortars thing, which I'll admit is personal preference, I suggest removing Boom // Bust (kind of useless with the rules change), dropping Faithless Looting (this isn't necessary at all), moving Trinisphere to the sideboard (messes up your Goblin Dark-Dwellers plays, but maybe keep one mainboard at most), going up to full 4x Blood Moon mainboard (this is your best turn 2 in Modern). Might also want to work in more finishers. More Inferno Titan and / or Stormbreath Dragon are good.

Very, very well said, one can almost feel your love for the deck, but perhaps it's just the pox player in me totally feeling ya xD.
Anyway, I totally agree on... basically everything, especially the rules change, I was a few days from buying boros LD for modern, had all the b/b and flagstones trades setup and then the freaking change hit... Gah, nevermind.

I can't really disagree on anything here, but to pitch in my two cents as well:
1. More fninishers, either more GDD or dragons, depending on your metageame you can choose between stormbreath and thundermaw.

2. No Faithless Lootings, the card is truly not needed in the deck and you can find (especially with trinisphere) much better replacemnts in the form of more LD or blood moon.

3. If you are gonna keep boom//bust in, I would suggest at least a couple darksteel citadels to make for some explosive draws.

Thanks a bunch from the both of you, I'm just coming back to magic from a little time off and had no clue about the rules change. Disappointing to hear, but better to hear now than in an event. I'm going to head back for more playtesting before making changes here, but thank you again for the advice, it is much appreciated.

A Primer on Ponza. The Primer on the first page is updated fairly often (the OP puts a lot of work into it), there's constant (healthy) debate on what's good and bad for our deck, and people post their results with thier decklist whenever they play in big tournaments. So it's good, up to date reference on this deck type. I also post on there from time to time, my username there is VampireChild85.

Huh, I suppose I will check it out as well, I never really got around to poking in ponza enough, it's about time to change that I think, thanks.

I'm taking a break from Ponza. We're trying to grow our club and I don't want to scare away new players.

I'm a fan of Ponza. Lately I've been running Tireless Tracker, Huntmaster of the Fells and Scavenging Ooze. Tracker has been surprisingly good and has a lot of mid to late game potential. I also mainboard Blood Moons since they just give you free wins, especially game 1. Trinisphere is more of a sideboard card. Unless your local meta is just a bunch of storm/combo players.
You can also draw too many LD spells. A single delver can and will kill you if you draw only LD spells. I've dropped down to only 7 LD spells in the 75. It's been more than enough since Blood Moon just does it's thing.
Here is my list, would love some constructive criticism. http://www.mtgvault.com/couch312/decks/our-land/

Moon mainboard is the main turn 2 card in most Ponza decks. I run 7 dedicated LD cards + 4 Moon + 2 Beast Within mainboard (+ 3 Goblin Dark-Dwellers) and only 2 Crumble to Dust sideboard vs Tron. Moon is the main lock with LD just being a delaying tactic while building up your threats / win. As for Trinisphere, unfortunately I haven't got any yet, so I haven't got experience with them, but I have seen that on average it is run as 3 of across the 75, often with 1 main and 2 side, the split I'd start with while testing them.
