Deck Description

This deck is part of a new format my friends and I are wanting to try out. It focuses purely on devotion and nothing else. We even drafted up the guidelines for building our devotion decks. If you have any suggestions concerning these rules, please comment them below. Feedback is greatly appreciated.

1. All nonland cards in your deck must contribute to your devotion. This rule does not apply to tokens.

2. Your deck may only be one color. You may not have any other colored mana symbol on any card, to include card effects, unless it is hybrid mana. Hybrid mana must include your chosen color.

3. Each deck must include the god card of your chosen color, at least one other nonland permanent that has an effect based on devotion, and [Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx].

4. Instant & Sorcery spells are not allowed unless they or another permanent on the field has an effect that allows them to stay on the field as a permanent (i.e. Cipher, Elite Arcanist, etc.). Instant & Sorcery spells cannot be played unless they will remain on the field as a permanent on the turn they are played.

5. Colorless cards are not allowed.

6. You may only have up to four of a single non-basic land in your deck, and it may not violate any of the other rules listed. Dual land or land that can produce more than one color of mana with an effect is not allowed. This rule does not apply to [Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx].

7. Only cards that fall under the archetype Modern are authorized. This includes Timeshifted cards.

8. Players may not include creatures with intimidate or fear, or creatures that grant either ability to other creatures. Creatures that gain intimidate or fear through an activated or triggered ability are allowed. Non-creature permanents that grant these abilities are allowed. Creatures with Shadow or unblockable are still allowed.

How to Play

This deck plays out just like a normal deck, only without instants or sorceries. Try to get as much devotion out as possible with a Nykthos on the field so that you can cast a lot of spells. There are plenty of draw effects at work in this deck, so don't fret about being short of cards at the end of your turn. You will get more in time.

The big thing to do here is to get a [Lighthouse Chronologist] to max level and start putting counters [Magosi, the Waterveil]. Cast [Aqueous Form] & [Ghostly Touch] on a creature and use that to activate mill/draw effects on creatures and to untap a Magosi that just hit the field.

***DO NOT ACTIVATE MORE THAN 1 MAGOSI AT A TIME!!! CHRONOLOGIST IS MEANT TO ENSURE YOU STILL HAVE A TURN WHILE GETTING COUNTERS!!!***

Once you have your Magosi loaded with counters, start popping them off one at a time. Use the extra turns you get to mill your opponents deck & search for things you will need later on. And don't worry about running out of cards, because while drawing you will eventually hit a [Labratory Maniac] for a surprise victory.

Deck discussion for Devotion to the Sea

I really, really like this one. That being said I'd hate to play against it in this format. You have a lot of ways to take extra turns and plenty of ways to take advantage of that. And seeing a successful victory with laboratory maniac just has to be so completely satisfying.

Well done!
