Deck Description

Much of this deck may be similar to my last UW control deck but I'm updating it for the Post-Rotation standard. It's been a while so some of the cards may be in there for experimental purposes. Comments or suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Deck discussion for UW Control Updated

Against agro I like baneslayer better since it comes out faster. Wurmcoil should either be another baneslayer or. Frost titan. Id say frost titan unless you really want to protect against red. Also I don't really like Elspeth in this deck. If you want life play baneslayer or wurmcoil. They are also better blockers than tokens since they gain life and are hard to burn. And I dont think trinket mage would be Spectacular here

Ok, thanks. Yeah, I personally don't like Elspeth at all (the new one) but I figure it is worth a shot at least. If I land it early enough against some slower decks, I can just wait until they drop something good and blow it up. If it's a quick aggro deck, 3 blockers for a turn could help a lot! Idk, she will likely have to go but for now, it's just in for experimental purposes. The Wurmcoil it there mostly to fight other titans and removal. Right now, the threats are mostly experimental too which is why they're all one-ofs. Any other ideas? Sideboard options or such?

I'm not sure if the format is aggro enough to justify running 4 Wall of Omens. Also, if you do run wall of omens, the preordains definitely aren't neccesary, or Vice versa. Like Reece said, Elspeth doesn't really fit here, since she kills most of your stuff too. In my opinion, a Trinket mage package is great in U/W, since it doesn't have the class A removal, Brittle Effigy is very welcome. Voltaic Key to uber power ratchet bomb? Everflowing Chalice? Elixir of Immortality pretty much kills red. (and we all know how you hate red lol) Overall, a nice control deck.

P.S.
NICE JACES!

The format as a whole maybe isn't, but I feel like the local FNM is unfortunately... The best decks aren't so much but they also cost over $500 to build which isn't too reasonable for your average FNM player. But beyond that, trinket mage seems good but takes up a lot of space I think. I wouldn't need/want Voltaic Key honestly but the Chalice, Elixir, and Effigy seem good. Maybe Chimeric Mass, too. Preordains are kind of like my extra jaces that I don't own... Mostly late game selection for what I need most at the time. Wall of Omens is kind of like white's situationally better version of it. Again, Elspeth is an experiment. Anyways, if then I go with the trinket package, what should I swap those in for instead?

Obviously, Elspeth opens up 1 spot,. If a trinket mage can fetch up an effigy, one of the Journeys or condemns could be swapped. And i've never really been a huge fan of small Jace, considering how many planeswalkers you're already running. So after all of those you have 4 open spots, if you take out 1 preordain or wall of omens (probably a wall, since trinky is a creature that cantrips too) you'd have 5 open spots, which is enough for 2 trinket mages plus 1 Chalice, 1 Effigy, and 1 Elixir. Just my opinion.

Ok, so I've run some practice hands and whatnot with the deck a bit. Turns out, I was actually fairly wrong about Elspeth in many situations. In a pinch, she can ultimate, but at her best, she makes 3 tokens EVERY turn. -2 for tokens, then venser her out and back to 4, all the while you get blockers and venser gets closer to his ultimate! I honestly think that trinket mage may just slow the deck down now. When you're going white in control I've already got Wall of Omens essentially filling that role instead but a little bit better, I think. Plus, a couple more planeswalkers for variety. I'll still keep it in the back of my head as an idea but for now, I think I'm actually liking it as is.

yea venser and elspeth are such a beast combo! for 10 total cmc you can potentially have unlimited reinforcements and sweet counters for the rest of the game!

i have a deck that is sorta built around this combo, check it out! its called venser!nomnom or something like that lol

Man I was surprised that you have a control deck but no Wall of Frost:P looks pretty good though. I'm pretty new to magic and tried making a control deck, would you mind taking a look at it? :D
