Forest's Grip

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (15 cards)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

The basic idea is to use small creatures in an attempt to stall for your bigger creatures. Pretty basic stuff, with one awesome twist: Elite Arcanist + Silence. One Arcanist+Silence means your opponent can only play lands on their turn (or abilities from creatures that already made it out to the field), provided you save one mana and keep your Arcanist untapped on your turn . Two Arcanists+Silences means your opponent will be unable to act on their turn OR your turn. Total dominance is a nice thing.

How to Play

Try not to miss a land drop. Use Lay of the Land and Seek the Horizon to help. Divination and Uncovered Clues will help you draw your Arcanists and Silences, as will the Stealer of Secrets if you can get it to deal some damage. If you manage to abuse some of the +1/+1 counter builders early, Prime Seeker Zegana will give you a great chance at getting your Arcanist/Silence. Once you get an Arcanist/Silence combo off, you should have all the time in the world to draw land and get out your big green baddies. On the off chance that you're unable to complete the Arcanist combo, this deck still has the ability to form a strong army with things like Primeval Bounty, Slime Molding, and Howl of the Night Pack. ***Try to save a Dispel for when you manage to get your Arcanist and Silence in hand. There's nothing more annoying than working to draw a creature then having it die before getting to use it.***

Also, if you can get Urban Burgeoning out before your Arcanist/Silence, you won't have to worry about saving one mana each turn, since one will untap on your opponent's untap step anyway.

***IMPORTANT***
No matter how close you get to winning, don't get cocky. With one Arcanist/Silence out, your opponent can still cast spells on your turn, meaning you still have to watch out for instants. Once you get two out, you're pretty much set, but still, be very careful about how much mana you use. You don't want to run out of mana and not have enough (2) to tap your Arcanists to reactivate your Silences.
******************

As for the sideboard, I've included another Fog, just in case the opponent's deck is faster than yours. The extra Fog should let you stall a bit longer and get that draw you need to seal the deal. Druid's Deliverance is there for the same reason. It's basically another Fog with an added Populate effect (which can be VERY handy if you've got a big slime token out from Slime Molding). The Ranger's Guiles are there in case you want to swing with a creature or two before you get out your Arcanist/Silence without fear of getting insta-killed. Essence Scatters are included just in case you decide that they're getting too much out before you can Arcanist/Silence. Naturalize and Sundering Growth are for those pesky Enchantments and/or Artifacts you may run in to. Windstorm and Plummet should be enough to deal with any flying creatures you might struggle with (The deck's only got one creature with reach and only two copies of said creature). The extra Divination is there if you decide that you'd like to try to draw your good cards a bit faster and don't really need to worry about other threats your sideboard can deal with.

This deck was created with cards I've pulled from a few boosters. My selection is a bit limited, but I'd love suggestions for the Main Deck and Sideboard, so I know which cards to look out for in the future!
(I'd like to eventually run 4 Arcanists and 4 Silences, but since I don't have them all yet, it'll have to wait.)

Deck discussion for Forest's Grip

Silence is your only white card? You got balls.

Anyway, I'd suggest more copies of more of the good creatures like Kalonian Tusker, Briarpack Alpha, etc. and running Strangleroot Geists won't be a bad idea.

I have another Briarpack Alpha I can add. No Strangleroot Geists, but I'll be on the look out.

Also, The Silences aren't actually meant to be cast from the hand. They're only to be used with the Elite Arcanist's "put on to the battlefield" effect, so their color doesn't really matter. I suppose being able to play them from the hand would be nice, but it's even better to be able to recast them on each turn with the Arcanist.

Oh, well now that makes sense!

I hate and love to recrommend this to you: how about at least 1 Thragtusk? They're a very nice green card which are now around $5! If you can get a Breeding Pool, then this is possible.

I got the Breeding Pool (as well as the rest of these cards) from a booster pack. I haven't had to pay for any singles yet. But I'll hit up my local card shop this weekend, hopefully pick up a few singles, then update this deck.

Thanks for the input!
