Deck Description

The idea is to use early game control enchantments like Arrest, Encrust, and Oblivion Ring to power up late game enchantments like Sphere of Safety and Ethereal Armor. I want it to be standard legal and ideally not too expensive.

How to Play

I just got back into Magic after literally ten years not playing so I only have a vague idea of what there is to play against. My plan is to cast enchantments on any creatures the enemy gets out and hopefully start getting cards from an early Scroll Thief because all the enemy creatures can't block. If I can keep total control, an early creature might just kill the opponent with Ethereal Armor. If the game goes longer, I would hope Sphere of Safety would protect me from token swarms and Tricks of the Trade would get one of my Serra Angels past any blockers.

Deck discussion for Enchantment Control

You can use curiosity, which makes any creature a scroll thief but also adds to your enchantment count. I'd play curiosity + invisible stalker. Standard, cheap, and effective.

Also, you are very susceptible to this card: http://magiccards.info/isd/en/26.html

I was wondering about cards like that, I'll put extra Negates in my sideboard and always hold one back against white decks, thanks.

I second the comment about invisible stalker and curiosity. I would take this further to then explain you can replace your pacifism/defangs for bonds of faith. This card doubles as a boost for your humans, or a nullifier for enemy creatures. With stalker's unblockability and hexproof it can get quite nasty quite fast if he has one of those, and perhaps ethereal armour on.

Not sure what you want to switch out elsewhere but I'd also try and reduce the number of double colour costs you have like encrust and claustrophobia. Without dual lands they can be quite costly on your mana, personally I would swap those 4 cards for an extra fiend hunter and 3 sensory deprivation.

Syncopate could replace the double cost of cancel as well and in my playing experience is probably one of the best counters there is in the standard format.

I swapped Bond of Faith in for the Defangs for the time being (its a straight upgrade in almost every situation, although I really like the card art, take that guy from Twilight) and put Stealer of Secrets in instead of Scroll Thief so I can use the flex effect. I'll watch for Invisible Stalkers but where I live four would cost about as much as the rest of the deck.

I also put in some more Fiend Hunters. Since they do what Encrust/Claustrophobia are supposed to do (prevent activated abilities, not just attacking and blocking) I think I'll drop at least one of those and be mostly rid of double mana costs. Also, I'll use some Syncopates.

I also put Nevermore in the sideboard for second and third games. Thanks everyone.

Why oblivion rings instead of "detention sphere"?

Mostly because I was trying to make the deck for as cheap as possible.

After playing a couple weeks, I will probably get a set of those since they can soak up token swarms as well as take out specific nasty cards.
