Deck Description

This deck was inspired once I saw the spoiler for Laboratory Maniac, and wanted to devise a way to win in standard via self-milling. The strategy is based around dumping as much as i can into my GY as fast as I can, then pulling out the useful things with a flashback Unburial Rites.

The key to this strategy is Merfolk Looters for early card advantage, along with Dream Twist to get an early start on milling myself.

Once I have a decent graveyard presence, out comes the Necrotic Ooze to make use of my buried creature abilities like archivists, looters, soliton, Mirror-Mad Phantasm, and Mindshrieker.

Major Combos:
- Possible T4 Jin-Gitaxias or Blightsteel Colossus via Dream Twists putting either of those plus an unburial rites into the GY.
- Necrotic Ooze + Merfolk Looter on field + Mirror-Mad Phantasm in the GY + 6 open mana = Win. Use the Phantasm's ability on the ooze, completely self-milling yourself, then flashback an Unburial Rites on the Laboratory Maniac, then tap the looter for the win.
- Archivist and Soliton in the GY + Ooze on the field = fill your GY fast and mess with the opponent's hand, helping you find the lands and buried creatures you need to combo out.

As you can see, this deck is a very rough draft, so if you have any suggestions which would break this deck or make it more consistent in a competitive environment, please dont hesitate to let me know :D

Deck discussion for Innistrad Self-Mill

I really like the idea of using Necrotic Ooze to its full potential like this, not sure how this would actually play out though, and if your gonna use blue why not add snapcaster mage? Seems like theres some good targets

lol i really don't think anyone would see that coming though, using ooze to play mirror mad ability from the grave and completely mill yourself haha just hope they don't counter the unburial rights or burn the maniac in response to you tapping looter :( still would be funny though

Yeah there are a few cards that I wanted to put in but wasnt sure what to cut. Skaab Ruinators pretty much have to go in, and a few snapcaster mages certainly couldnt hurt, but again, just not sure where they fit in.

Another version of the deck i put together before this had me milling as much as possible then using a Frantic Salvage to put Wurmcoil, Blightsteel, and a Mindslaver plus a useful artifact on top of my library for a deadly Mindshrieker swing. In playtesting this version though, i Did happen to pull out swinging with a 21/20 necrotic ooze on turn 5 after using the shrieker ability on him and getting a lucky mill of Soliton followed by Blightsteel.

Blightsteel won't work. "If Blightsteel Colossus would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, reveal Blightsteel Colossus and shuffle it into its owner's library instead." He never reaches the graveyard.

I don't see enough ways for you to have Laboratory Maniac into play, and keep it there. When you were even half way through your deck, I'd be saving all my removal for Lab, then (because I play it) I'd Surgical Extraction.

Your necrotic ooze+Mirror-Mad ability as a complete self mill wouldnt work either. Here's a ruling on necrotic ooze.

If an activated ability of a card in a graveyard references the card it's printed on by name, treat Necrotic Ooze's version of that ability as though it referenced Necrotic Ooze by name instead. For example, if Cudgel Troll (which says "{G}: Regenerate Cudgel Troll") is in a graveyard, Necrotic Ooze has the ability "{G}: Regenerate Necrotic Ooze."
