Deck Description

So, I was kind of messing around with the idea of forgemaster in legacy after I saw a few people playing it online. They all ran blue versions, but I couldn't fathom why nobody thought to use white for enlightened tutor... Thoughtcast is good, but why draw blindly when you can tutor exactly what you need? (:

and tutor also gets o-ring :'D

WANT TO KNOW A CRAZY ASS T1 WIN ON THE DRAW? OKAY!!!!
Opening hand (including draw);

Ancient tomb
Mox opal
voltaic key
metalworker
kuldotha forgemaster
lightning greaves
grim monolith
grim monolith

So, first you play your ancient tomb. Tap it for 2 mana, play grim monolith. Tap grim monolith for 3 mana, and use 1 of it to cast voltaic key. Then play mox opal, which has metalcraft (Monolith, key, mox opal) and tap it to produce a mana to activate voltaic key. Untap grim monolith with voltaic key, and tap grim monolith again to produce 3 more mana. You now have 5 in pool (we still had 2 in pool from the first manalith tap).
Use the 5 mana to play metalworker and lightning greaves. Equip the greaves to the worker and tap it, revealing kuldotha forgemaster and grim monolith from your hand, adding 4 mana to your mana pool. Use 2 of the mana to cast a 2nd grim monolith, and tap it to add another 3 to your pool. With the now 5 in pool, cast kuldotha forgemaster. Equip lightning graves and tap it, sacrificing any 3 artifacts OTHER THAN lightning graves. (i.e. voltaic key and the 2 monoliths). get a blightsteel in play via forgemaster, equip with lightning greaves, swing for 11 infect.

UNLIKELY? oh yes. A sweet combo that took me a lil while to find out? Oh yes. SICK ALL THE SAME? You know it.

P.s. thought this combo up all by myself. It may have been done, but I made the deck and actually sat down and thought about it. This is my first extreme combo and I'm pretty proud, lol.

Deck discussion for MUD Forgemaster

This is actually pretty interesting, and the "CRAZY ASS T1 WIN" section of the description gave me a fit of laughter. Tired, turned on internet because of Muppet related shenanigans. More thoughts later...

All I can think of is that you could utilize Ethersworn Canonist as a sideboard option. The deck is solid, and pretty much everything is optimal. I think Myr Battlesphere is the only piece of tech I don't think I like that much, and that's mostly because it's just a fancy beatstick.

Hmm... against storm she could be really usefull, but so is trinisphere.
my hardest matchups are UW stoneblade and affinity. I think after sideboard I have the stoneblade matchup, but affinity I just have to race o.o

battlesphere is actually really good. it survives a diabolic edict, and if I have voltaic key, it lets me get battlesphere, then sac 3 tokens after untap via key, then get blightsteel (:

sideboard I think is still iffy, though.

Agree with WnB on Canonist. White MUD, or what our shop calls "Glue", can make amazing use out of that chick. And you're right, Battlesphere is surprisingly useful for more that just a big ass beatstick (though it does that very well) =]

Man, don't try to outrace Affinity...you can't, even if you're a the better player. Just remember, "Magister time stultus" =P

what matchups does canonist help most in, though? never really used her that much, so im not too fluent on exactly what she does.

and my best chance at affinity is getting out myr superion, then stalling til I can get blightsteel. post board I side in my missteps and hope against stp lol

Gobs, Fae Tempo, sometimes Metal Tempo oddly enough, Reanimator, ~sorta~ Dredge, and Zoo (beats the hell out of Zoo).

hmmm... zoo is half rough, so thats a good idea, lol.
any suggestions on where to put her? maybe sb in the place of trinisphere?

I'd lose one of your three pieces of GY hate for one, but that's just because I don't see grave decks much right now with the way things have shaped up.

yeah I can agree with that. NO rug is pretty fluent now, as is stoneblade. so 3 crypt arent really necessary.
maybe drop a 3rd spellskite for another?

Sounds like the best drop for it, but I'm admittedly biased against Spellskite right now. I tried it for a bit, and whilst the magnetic properties of it made for some amusing games, I like Kira better for that job.
Then again, this deck doesn't exactly welcome Kira with open arms...

Also, I hate to advertise, but would you mind checking out a mono-u deck I've been toying with? It's called Þökk, and it's a Dreadnought deck which has been eluding my attempts to smooth it out fully.

I love spellskite. It lures removal away from my bigger threats. and where this deck is so fast (i've made people scoop on t1 with this deck, lol) sometimes just luring 1 removal spell is enough. (:

and don't worry, I don't mind advertising :'D everybody loves feedback, and you and sure always help me out ^.^

I can imagine them doing so, but for your deck the main problem will probably wind up as Hurkyl's Recall rather than spot removal D:

Also, thanks again for the input man.

Wow. This is quite the interesting deck for sure. And to be honest, I'm not even really sure what should change. It looks like a pretty solid "workshop" deck ported over from Vintage (obviously losing workshop which sucks, but works well enough). The only 2 cards that I could see wanting to play much are potentially some number of removal spells in the form of Swords to Plowshares (assuming you can get white easy enough - I'm not sure just looking at the list right now) or Dismember. Dismember obviously is better in that it's colorless (sorta) while Swords to Plowshares is most often the clear winner at other times.

1 main thing I would almost certainly change, though, is to make sure there are at least 4 Lightning Greaves (by "at least" I mean potentially even using Swiftfoot Boots as well). The biggest problem with most decks like these is that your most important cards are cards like Kuldotha Forgemaster and Metalworker. They're great, but they only function if they can sit around and not die for an entire turn first. Lightning Greaves allows for them to be "safe" the turn they enter play, and even potentially be used then. Greaves also means the same for your Blightsteel. Rather than taking 1 full turn for Forgemaster to survive + 1 full turn for the Blightsteel to survive, you need simply your turn without instant speed removal to win.

Mindslaver is also certainly a card that could be just as solid as Blightsteel in various matchups (think combo). Just a thought, though maybe not even worth a SB slot - depending on your metagame I suppose.

1 final note... Sorry for being sooo slow to respond about this! I just have been really busy with classes starting up and just generally not checking by this site as much recently.:/

thank you , I'm glad you like it :'D
the reason i didn't add removal in here, besides o-ring, is because this deck usually goes off turn 2. removal isn't exactly needed.

the inclusion of 2 more greaves is something i am definitely in favor of, I just don't know when i'll tamper with this build, seeing how modern has been my main concern lately. that and standard, with rotation..

and don't worry about the delay, life is more than magic hahaha. classes are far more important. whenever you get the time, do what you can. I appreciate everything you've done in regards to advice. thank you (:

Haha, this is true. Gotta say though, class really isn't quite as fun as magic. Haha. But anyway, I'm just happy to help how I can, when I can. :) The removal thing makes total sense - I just love control too much to really give up that aspect I suppose.:/
Yeah, Modern really is seeming to be a great format, though it is a bit ridiculous how powerful combo decks have now become - with so many different options for it, too. I like that there is variety, but in some ways it just makes it harder to beat and prepare for.
Standard is just great, of course, though I can't wait for Innistrad to be legal!

hahaha, see, turns out I'm a red player. I just disguise this in different decks. Like in green white, I just turn dudes sideways. And when I'm playing control, the moment I have counter magic up, I just turn dudes sideways. In this? I turn my artifacts sideways, get some mana, play some dudes, then turn them sideways!!! It's the best approach hahahaha.
Modern... kind of lost me, lately. Like all this combo is just lame.... I might just play pyromancers. Seems to be putting up the best results (where I play).
OMGGGG INNISTRAD <3 There werewolves are actually so good. So aggressive! And snapcaster mage.... <3<3<3 flashback day of judgement? :'D (i'm a board sweep-whore, I love killing things haha)
new garruk is actually amazing, too. after proxying up some cards and testing, this new set is proving to be veryyyy powerful. o.o

I REALLY like this... With my first 5 sample hands I got 4 Blightsteels out by T3 at the LATEST. The only thing I would consider changing is potentially dropping another Mox Diamond for either a Mox Opal or Lightning Greaves. Thats it :)

why thank you (:
i think i will include 2 more greaves, though. -1 golem -1 divining top.

i prefer mox diamond to opal, though, because theyre not legendary, so i can combo off faster
