Deck Description

Well, new format... "modern"...
Ew. Personally I dislike this format a lot. Just another format to invest in. eh.
This deck is my "budget" attempt at it. Just a few ideas kickin' around, I suppose.

Lets see... i dunno if you need 4 doran's personally, and i've always really disliked dryad arbor a 1/1 creature land that counts as my land drop for the turn that has summoning sickness just doesnt appeal to me=/ maybe it's because i came from a den of pingers but i've always found it to be meh

Anyway! i think i would change out 1 of those dorans for another pridemage

Yeah, 4 dorans may be too much, but once he hits the field he is a HUGE target. So I like having as much backup as possible.
And yeah, after playing a few games, dryad arbor is questionable... still don't know how I feel about him. But i also feel the landbase is shaky :S
any suggestions?

I would loose the treetop villages all together and drop the tec edge -1 and add some temple gardens(if they are legal in modern that is) =P

and as for the creature base i would probably lose the dryad for another pridemage as well

Not too happy with the Shields, I think you'd have something better for that spot...=/

Other than that, I like it. I hate Modern though, it's so boring. I'm even looking past my Legacy-player bias on this...the format is dull and boring. The ban list is laughable...and honestly, unless the Goyf gets banned too, the format will go the way of Standard =/

Yeah, the shields are half weak here. with doran they're pretty great, though. Open for suggestions.

And I agree 100%. Before, I was like "YESS, I get to use my stoneforges/jaces/bitter blossoms/batterskuls/swords ^.^!!!!"
Now I'm like... -.-' really?

This deck is cheap as hell to build, so why not? I have the fetches, and everything else is under 10$.

Just meant to be able to compete with my local meta.

Qusali Pridemage or Tidehollow Sculler are both great choices =]

qasali is actually a great choice, thank you (:

I honestly thought about making this mid-range. with 4 thoughtseize and what not. But i feel the best way to go about this is to smash face... and it's also the cheaper way. (:

if it's anything like legacy, it'll be very suicidal. even more so, with the ravnica duals being the only non basic lands fetchable with fetch-lands. so, turn them brothas sideways!!

also i chose qasali over the skuller because it can be tutored via green sun.

p.s. i'm a red player trapped in a green-white hybrid's body. o.o

Really? I think modern is awesome! Only problem is the ban list is way over the top (Mental Misstep? Really!?)

Anyway, neat deck Ethan. Idk about the Llanowar Augur... Not sure what he's doing there to be honest (though I guess he function's nicely with Doran...). One card I feel that could help you is Kitchen Finks. It rocks all the zoo/aggro decks in modern and provides a resiliant body against wrath while beating down reasonably quick. Also, Murmuring Bosk is AMAZING in a deck like this - it can even be fetched out with Verdant Catacombs!!
Also, while you're running black, may as well add IoK and/or Thoughtseize. I hear it's pretty good.;)

Btw, I made a modern list, too. Mind giving it a look over? It's really rough right now.

Meh, the more I play the more I enjoy modern. But if it weren't for the sudden spark of interest in my local card shop, I'd never play it.

And thank you! I'm glad you like the deck. and llanowar augur is really good with doran. I can assure this deck will get doran out 99% of the time by turn 3. We have 3 gsz to get him, 4 treefolk harbringer and 4 doran himself.. thats 11 chances to draw one, lol.

And murmuring bosk is a GREAT suggestion, thank you!! That's what my landbase was looking for! (:

Also, I thought about running a playset of thoughseize, and then some IoK, but that would make this deck more midrange. I don't want to play midrange, I want to bash face. lol.
I figured the best way to go about this was to just lay my guys, and turn 'em sideways. I just like sending guys into the red-zone.

And I'll check it out, now! No problem and thanks for the advice/comment! (:

Oh, ok. I guess I hadn't really thought about all the ways to get out Doran in the deck! :/
And I guess I also hadn't realized just how aggressive your curve is and how many 1-drops you already have! I mean, I'd probably run 4 IoK/Thoughtseize in a black aggro sort of deck if my main threats were at 2 or 3 mana because it's just such a good turn 1 play. I see now that you already have turn 1 pretty well covered without it. And I totally understand just bashing face. Haha. Pretty much the best thing in magic - probably part of why I'm just not a huge fan of insta-win combo decks (storm, splinter-twin, etc.). Even reanimator (sort of a combo deck) gets to bash face a few times!
