Taxes

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (0 cards)

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

So, lately there was this list (and by lately, I mean within the past few months) that I saw kickin' on a Starcity games open. All I saw was a leonin arbiter, a few wastelands and some scrublands. So I thought the idea of essentially 'locking down' your opponent, but in a more aggro-esque control build was really cool!

They labeled the name as "W/B taxes", but after I searched up an actual taxes deck, it seems the only versions were death and taxes - a white weeie build.

That build was cool and all, but nowhere near what I wanted. So here is my take, on what I essentially believe 'taxes' should be. A brew, more or less.

AND I KNOW STONEFORGE IS COUNTER PRODUCTVE WITH LEONIN ARBITER, but if you vial in the stoneforge, you're payin 2 mana either way. (:

Deck discussion for Taxes

I like it, but I would swap out the STP for Path to Exile. With the Arbiter that is a real pain in the ass.

I was thinking about that, but where this can in a sense be a mana denial deck, I don't want to give them the option of getting another land on the board. i'd rather they gain life than board state.

But in my experience it's an infuriating catch-22 they're given. They need the land to pay for the ability to search for that land! :D

Awesome. Good to see you back on Vault, decks have been pretty damn boring lately. Nice deck, I prefer it to most D+T builds :). I tend to agree with SWN here on the PtE, especially with Aven Mindcensor, which I'm sure you know is a typical card in this deck, on the field with Leonin Arbiter.
Black has undoubtedly the best disruption (besides blue), so that's a great decision.
Isn't Mother of Runes art Weird? Just my opinion.

Thank you! I agree, lately the vault has been... questionable.

I think you guys may be right about the pte, though. Once I get this deck into some testing, we'll see for sure! (:

I had thought about mindcensor, but I honestly didn't have room. :/ A card from Dark Ascension I was looking at, though, was Thalia (forget the rest of her name). She will definitely find a spot in my sideboard, alongside that new Graffdigger's cage <3

And yeah, her art is rather weird hahaha

Grafdigger's cage is stupid good. That card's price is going to shoot through the roof. It's going to be not only a sideboard card for legacy (maybe/probably), but also for standard.
Thalia's really cool. She's my favorite hatebear so far, bar none. I think she might become a staple in white weenie decks in most formats very soon.
I wasn't suggesting you add mindcensor, because you really only need one library screwer in this deck. Those guys w/ PtE is kind of like Kavu Predator w/ StP.
I am THRILLED for Dark Ascension.

the cage is going to be a painnnn. I thought getting around tormods crypt was bad... this thing HOSES so many decks :(

I also really like Elbrus, the blidning blade. With mother of runes, I think it could be sweet (: Suit up for 1 mana, after cheating it in with SfM, swing in with protection via Mom, and BAM, 13/13 flying trample intimidate. Mmmmmmm

It's a shame Stoneforge is banned in Modern and Extended. A killer deck idea would be turn one Tormented Soul/Zephyr Sprite/Suntail Hawk/KITESAIL APPRENTICE, turn 2 Stoneforge, turn three equip swing get a 13/13 trample intimidate flying.
Somewhat susceptible to removal, but one could run disruption.
There is a good reason that Stoneforge is banned.

So, what do you think of this build? http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=287667
I'm trying to implement this. Not sure if blue should go for black.
Thanks.

What I want to know is...will Elbrus be legal as an EDH general? I already know my group will allow it, but I would love to see it be official =]

And I can't wait to put the Cage into the SB of both of my current Extractions...especially my Iso-Seek =D

At the same time regarding the Cage, all I can say is, it's about damn time! I enjoy graveyard shenanigans as much as the next guy, but at the same time, a strong means to keep those shenanigans in check has been well over-due.

Stoneforge needed to be banned n modern and extended, she's just too overpowered in a format with 'limited' answers. If wilf nacatle was 'too good', stoneforge definitely pushed the bar.

The cage was most definitely not needed! D:
tormod's crypt, leyline and relic were by far enough :/ I hate the cage, haha! but I will definitely sb it, (:

But it does stop what Dredge does after all it's dredging...and that's what makes it a nice SB card =]

So I was running a Werewolf tribal for standard today, and I had Young Wolf, Strangleroot Geist and Pyreheart Wolf in my deck. For some odd reason I decided to SB Grafdigger's Cage...It killed me.

I always heard that this version was called black and taxes, it used to be a major thorn in my side for a while, since when I see it I feel the urge to play decks that are closer to being fair(Dredge, Jericho, and Dirt).

This is pretty light on disruption compared to the W/B builds I usually see, but it seems to work well enough for what it is.

Like your design take on Taxes Ethan, pretty cool, and I'd be very much inclined to enjoy seeing it from the opponents side of the table :D

I googled black and taxes, but couldnt find any lists :/

yeah, the disruption is slightly light here, but liliana is not to be overlooked! she's like disruption times 4 lol.

im glad you like it! thank you very much (:never know, though. if we ever play ill be sure to play with this deck ;]

Liliana is great and all, I've abused the living mess out of her in a deck I kick around for Maverick players, but selective discard has always been more powerful.

I guess it's just what people called it at the table, but then again some people also call CounterTop Dreidelscheisse...

But of course I liked it! It's douchey Orzhov! And I'll hold you to that if I ever meet you on my travels :)

Selection is more powerful, no doubt, but she's such a huge threat! She's by far my favorite planeswalker.

And i look forward to the day, good sir.

4 Urborg and 4 Karakas seems really greedy. More so with the only way to use them if one is in play is Mox Diamond. Ever think about Crucible of Worlds in either the main or the side?

I'd drop Diamond. It's just bad unless your running 24+ lands.

I'm not sure I like SDT, Liliana, or Hymn here. They are all great cards but don't add to your game plan much. I would play more creatures... Serra Avenger, Tidehollow, and Confidant are all pretty great.

Not playing Vindicate = derp

Sorin could definitely rock it here.

Aaaand I can't believe I'm doing this, but mind checking out an idea for a green beatdown deck I had? http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=291363

Hmm....I've honestly been looking at this for awhile and to be honest I don't get it =/ . Leonin Arbiter wouldn't do anything against the majority of my decks save for the ones that use spells like Harrow to mana ramp. I don't know, I'm pretty new and maybe I just haven't been exposed to formats where this deck would shut someone down....

The format is called Legacy, and virtually ever deck plays lands a third to a half fetchlands like Marsh Flats. Additionally, Enlightened Tutor, Green Sun's Zenith, Natural Order, Entomb, and various other cards see heavy play
