Deck Description

Awseome deck which is based on a black and blue assassin deck i\'ve found online. I\'ve just streamlined the deck and took the blue out to speed it all up.

It\'s main problems are its inability to destroy enchantments and creatures with protection against black. Also \"cannot be the target of spells of abilities\" is a nightmare spell/ability to encounter\"

Deck discussion for Assassin Deck

Beat a very large Sliver deck with this today (even though i was missing the Diabolic tutors - the local store didn't have any left), it's was a proud moment, although i can't help thinking it came down to the luck of the draw. It's definatly a good deck to use, you just have to be cunning in how you use it properly. If you are facing a poorly constructed deck with it, chances are you'll turn it to mush - just hope that your enemy isn't too aggressive.

Wall of Souls would help on defense. A little less on legendary creatures. Very nice though... I like it!

Please rate mine "Land Destructo Overkill"
smartypants out

It's pretty hardcore about creature oriented decks. If you go up against a burn deck or counter deck i don't know how you'd fair? Have you? How did it go?

you should actually check out the silent killers 2 deck posted in the building on a budget article series on the wizards of the coast site. They made a very nice assassin tribal.
Something you should learn about deck building is that you do not have to take 4 of each spell. Taking 1xProfane Command, 2xConsume Spirit, 2xTendrils of Corruption add a lot to a deck like this. You don't need them early game but they rule mid and late game. I also put 2xCabal Coffers in my assassin deck. Works great.

Terror and maybe some Nekkrataal's would be good for this deck.

Nekrataal was already meant to be on there, don't really know how it got left off. I'm quite anxious to play this against a burn deck (or sometihng non-creature orientated) to see how well it holds out. Any more spell suggestions would be greatful, although also if you could suggest what to remove from it as a trade (i don't want it to get much larger than it is).

Thanks

assassinate is an absolute piece of crap. 3 for sorcery speed. i'd say even terror is better. you should take those out and put in something else

Terror has replaced assassinate, just realised how dumb that was having assassinate in there in the first place, heh.

I never liked terror to be honest. Assassinate is able to remove more and if you go for terror I would prefer shriekmaw as it comes with a body, despite it being sorcery speed. Pure black I would prefer sudden death over terror any time, when dipping into other colors I'd go for mortify or terminate or putrify. terror is unreliable.

I use Assassinates in my discard deck. It's creature removal that comes as a surprise. It does the same thing as a Royal Assassin, but if people see a Royal Assassin sitting there they aren't as likely to attack, or they'll kill it. Assassinate has the advantage of being less anticipated. I won a game today because my opponent (who was at -2 life) attacked with his Platinum Angel, an otherwise good move as I had nothing to block with. It backfired when I Assassinated his Angel on my next turn.

I've made a few tweaks and changes and have sped the deck up slightly - so far i've managed to do quite well with it, have won a fair share of battles. Although it's not flawless by anymeans, Black's lacking of "remove target enchantment" is a big big big problem. It needs the ability to change colours too (protection against black is a killer).

Hello my friend

As I'm checking, this deck is highly creature removal, which is great, but I don't think it's enough, since your most powerful is the Avatar, which is there once (I know there are tutors for this). As you have written, against unargetable creatures and protection, you really suck, so you should work over there maybe (changing color?) or plyng with blue colour. I don't think it's too much slowed, when you have cards like Brainstorm, Careful Study, Intuition.

Opposition is just a naughty card combined with royal assassin. I also don't like terror, I would be more frightened by any enemy enchantments or instatns, which could throw you away, so Duress or Thoughtseize could do something.

Anyway, my zombies doing great, but I'll add another Grave Pact, just a mighty card..and was thinking about Helldozer to remove some pesky non-basic lands. Greetings!

i use diabolic edict to get rid of shrouded creatures. just wipe out all other enemy creatures then cast it when the shrouded creature is singled out. here's my assassin deck http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=20672
