This deck started out as the pre-constructed deck Gruul Goliaths which focused on the Bloodrush mechanic. I loved the deck idea when I first bought the deck. It was all about big creatures, bloodrush, and Target creature you control fights target creature your opponent controls. When I was new to mtg, I was all about big creature decks so this was right up my alley. I quickly realized that the deck needed alot of work though. Since then, I've changed the deck several times, trying first to add consistency, then trying to improve the mana curve, then opting to remove the biggest creatures for midsize creatures that can grow. I realized that I didn't use the bloodrush mechanic very often so I eventually moved away from it. Now it's transformed from a red/green trample and burn into more of a red/green trample deck. It's not a flashy deck but I kinda like it that way. It was my first deck so I try to keep it true to it's original theme. I'm not done with it though. I want to find a way to put Mina and Denn, Wildborn in it, but I'm not 100% sure if i really need it anyway, and I wouldn't know what to subtract for it. I like the Loxodon Warhammer when paired with Troll Ascetic but if I found something else better, it would probably be expendable.
The idea is to put out Polis Crusher and Rumblebelt Raiders, both with a modest 4 cmc, then grow them. Deus of calamity, Flameblast Dragon and Rubblehulk are the 3 biggest creatures. I wanted Loxodon Warhammer for the +3/+0 and trample, the lifelink is a bonus. It helps my smaller creatures be viable late game. When the warhammer is paired with Troll Ascetic, it's a powerhouse with trample, lifelink and regenration. The evolution charms add versatility.
