Suggestions for MTG Vault

Ok, so the idea here is to list features that you would like to see in any future version of MTG Vault that may be built. I'll start...

1) Better security (chuckles :().
2) Deckbuilding tools and being able to share your creations with the world.
3) The ability to write comments against decks.
4) Deck search facility.

What would you all like to see implemented in MTG Vault?

5) I'd love to see the deck rating facility that we have talked about so many times actually implemented! It'd be awesome to see what people really think of your deck!

6) A better social link between the forums and the actual site... don't ask me how though!!

This might be taken care of already but...

7) Allow the use of the avatar function.

I don't know what the deal with that is right now but I'm curious as to what's going on with that.

8) Some kind of playordraw sim, or the similar
9)This is complicated, but the ability to compare 2 decks, and users could vote//post who's deck would do better (for example: I make a GWR Naya deck, and MagicMan514 makes a GWR Naya deck as well, users could vote towards the deck they think would win if they were to ever play each other)

I like the idea of comparing two decks, if you could do something where two decks could be posted in the same page, and people could comment and rate the two without having to switch between decks, that would be cool.
10) also, i think a draft/sealed deck simulator would be awesome. If you could draft or do a sealed, then post up the deck you made for people to see. and as for the draft, say if we could see if other people are online, and maybe do and 8 man draft without bots if 8 people want to. that'dbe awesome!
11) the ability to instant message someone, say if i'm on the site and so is randomryan, i could send him a message and he could reply, but we could still surf the site as we did that, much like facebook does.

Really good idea! I like it...

12) And adding to the facebook stuff, you could have an "away" status or something...

1) the ability to rate each others decks using a 10 star system and you could set it up as a poll on the deck. then have a new deck searching implament:rating, where all decks would be listed best to worst.

2)another new searching implament the ability to search by deck creator.

3)for some reason it seamed that the deck building comunity was not as tioght outside of the forums. anyone se a way to fix that.

4)the ability to have freinds on the deck building site.

-Friends, instant messaging - keep community alive and active
-Card draw simulator. Absolute must if you can pull it off. I've looked nearly EVERYWHERE, and cannot find a single site or program to simulate draws. If you can pull this off, Gary, You'll have alot of people flocking to MTGVault, promise.
-Perhaps card browsing? have the cards in the set on the left hand side, and card previews and Oracle text on the right. List can be sorted by color, rarity, etc. Would be cool.
-Ratings is awesome.
-Comparing decks is cool too.

-Deck critiquing tools: Mana curve calculator, stats, etc. Would be great. I have yet to find a resource that does this. DO IT. You shall have epic traffic.

Keep it up!

I'll agree with you in that the draw simulator is very easy to code, but I'm going to have to disagree with your method of doing it. When you shuffle a deck you don't shuffle it in such a way that you can't draw too many of the same card, it's 100% random, which is how I intend on making the draw sim! :)

All the cards will be added to a pool, and then seven cards will be "drawn" from it. If you decide to redraw, all the cards will be put into the pool again ready to be drawn from again. Potentially you could draw exactly the same cards twice in a row just like you could in real life, albeit with a low chance of doing so. :p

i was wondering if you could add differnt veiws to the deck builder to help with creation like a function that would show you your drop curve ( what % of cards in you deck you could play on a given turn) and for the veiw could you add filters like mana cost, sub-type, power, toughness ect.

I agree with mtglord; it would be great if you could set up like a mana curve, or a pie chart detailing the relative amounts of creatures, lands, etc... (or even allow you to look at percentages of cards based on rarity or other conditions, maybe offer automated tips based on deck structure, such as how many lands you should be playing with, and what color...). It would also be kinda neat if you could make searches for decks of similar color/playstyle, and have searches refinable by rating, etc.

Would be a great Christmas present :)

Sorry that this post has to be my first. My name is Fernando Fernandez and I am a web developer, graduated with a degree in web development from the international academy of desgin and technology--just three months ago :-). I've been playing magic since tempest. Ok so on to the suggestion:

This goes back to the mana curve thing. I've seen a few both on web sites and within software like mtg studio. and I'd have to say there are a few things visually i'd like to see at a glance a box that shows the no of blue mana symbols in my deck or the number of red symbols in my deck. I traditionally do this on paper putting a W or a U for each symbol found in my deck. It helps me understand the proportions needed for my mana base.

Other than that I think everyone has made some interesting observations and suggestions I look forward to using mtg as my tool of choice.

My suggestion is to put a new background on the forum, something related to magic. Like land artwork, popular cards or even the magic logo posted across the forum 50 times, i don't care. I just get sick of seeing the light blue background.

It has been many months since this thread has been open since i joined and it looked like none of these awesome suggestions have been done. Is it because...

1) You are having troubles getting the software required.

2) You plan to input these changes in the future with a launch of a new mtg vault forum.

3) Not enough people use this forum so you don't think that this is worth it.

P.S. If it is number 3, could all the active members of mtg vault post advertisements for the site where they play FnM? I know of at least 3 stores that i live within 5 miles of that host FNM and have a bulletin board.

The reason is time, I simply don't have enough time to devote to coding the site. Evenings are terrible because as soon as I start getting into the flow of things it's time to stop.

I will put a skin on the forums like there used to be but I will only do this after I've launched the main site, otherwise I'd just be wasting time on that when I could be working on the main site.

Were you a member of the first main site biggles or have you only joined us since this "forum-only" state?

Hehe, I wouldn't call it awesome or amazing but no, this isn't the whole site, this is merely a temporary forum that is in place while I re-write the actual website! :)

To get a hint of what the actual site is like just take a look at the sneak preview on the homepage http://www.mtgvault.com and you'll see we're not just a forum! :)

A suggestion I have in regards to being able to rate other people's decks is to forbid/prevent people from rating their own decks. A site that I sometimes visit, more often since Vault has been down, has a deck rating option on it and it is annoying seeing someone rate their own deck 10 out of 10 when really it is nowhere near that good. Do I support flaming someone's deck because it isnt near the top for whatever reason(s)? NO. I however believe in fair rates, and if someone puts up a deck with 4 each of the 10 worst cards in Magic I dont believe that it should be allowed to have its creator give it a 10 thereby putting it above other decks that are better on the list.
I agree, and this is how the system will work, rating will only work on decks that are not your own! :)
I've actually decided against this and I'll explain why... The voting system is not your normal 1-10 star rating, it's done by a "vote up" or "vote down" system, if you've ever used the website digg.com you'll be right at home.

Once a vote has been cast on a deck the user that cast it does not get to vote again and their vote will count 1 point towards the decks total vote value.

So users adding a single vote to their own deck won't skew the results, and we've all got to start somewhere right?! :)

I like that idea! A digg style voting system would be awesome! :)

It's not 100% digg, but yeah, same sort of thing, vote up or vote down. :)

Reposting from the main site:

Things I would love to see on MTG Vault:

I would like the ability to paste deck lists in a large text box and have the card names parsed out and matched to their closest equivalent. (e.g.- 4x Birds of Paradise, 4x Force of Nature, 20 Forest, etc.). Just like the deck builder functionality provided by StarCityGames.com and CardKingdom.com (and output by MWS, Apprentice, etc.)

I would like the ability to specify what format a deck is made for (Standard, Extended, Vintage, etc). Ability to easily see what format a deck is intended for (icons next to deck names?), deck search filters by format, separate Top X Lists for different formats.

I would like the ability to mark a deck as a Work In Progress, and/or a way to "Publish" a deck so that some decks can remain private/friends only until I am ready to present them publicly.

I would like the ability to filter card searches by format.

Optional notifications when someone comments/rates my decks.

That's all I got for now, keep up the great work, Gary!

I guess i can't really suggest anything without asking a question: What're you planning on doing with the site? But just shooting in the dark,

-Facebook chat-style's a good idea
-A friends list for both regular users and for chat (if it's implemented)
-A favorite decks list that you can add and subtract to
-Being able to have a card draw simulator for your deck is an amazing idea (though hard to implement and a pain to update probably...maybe)
-Draft'd be cool, though card draw simulator might work off of that.(or vice-versa)
-A public chat room
-Automatic checking for tournament legality (Standard, Extended, Legacy, or Vintage at least).

Anyways, just my two bits

I think the voting system in general isn't too helpful. People get mad because people vote down on their deck, then they go and down vote everyone on the top 15 list. I'm not saying this because I'm annoyed my decks aren't being voted upon, on the contrary. Two of my decks have 1st and 2nd. I just find it annoying when someone gives it a -1, and don't have a constructive reason behind, other than they don't like me or are mad that their deck doesn't recieve votes.

I've got it! If you decide to put a play sim for mtg on here, it's not illegal! the card pics, however, are copyrighted, so you would have to ask wizards to be able to use them. Other than that, check out apprentice (open source software) for my 'legal' precedence.

1) a 'thing' where you can go through and plug in what cards you own and
how many.

2) using wish #1 you can search for submitted decks with a parameter that shows only decks containing (ONLY the) cards you own

2.1) the 'decks containing only cards user owns' parameter should also have a feature that allows you to assign a certain amount of leeway in the search. example: no more than 5,10,20,30,etc cards that searching user dose not own.

3) search for decks containing a certain card. example: decks containing raging goblin.

4) search for decks containing cards from certain periods. example: decks containing cards from the time-spiral and scourge sets.

5) search for decks containing certain color cards (check off wanted colors)

The alerts system on comments/rating is something we are looking at putting into the revamping profile pages. At the moment, each user has a profile page which just has their decks, but we are looking at adding a lot more info onto these!

As for the card search, I am looking at revamping this on the WoW TCG site, so the MTG site will follow suite at somepoint.

If there becomes a demand, we can add one in as required.

sometimes you might put a card into a deck and not have symbols for it, if this was possible, in the event that this happens, an alert will pop up, telling you you have a card that will not be playable in the deck, and have buttons for "OK" and "ignore"
hope this is possible!
