Probably just stupid but...

...If I play a nonbasic land, such as Orzhov Basilica, does the phrase "land you control" only refer to the lands you have on the battlefield? Just typing it makes me feel stupid for asking, but I need to know for the next time I play my friend. He believes that it also refers to the lands in his Graveyard and since I don't know for sure, I need proof.

You're right. While it is YOUR graveyard, it doesn't count as a land you control. Of the karoo lands had a built in crucible of worlds they'd be worth $10 instead of $0.10

In magic you have two terms when reffering to permanents, permanents you own and permanents you control. In order to control a permanent it must be on the battlefield. You do not control cards in your graveyard. You own the cards in your graveyard but you do not control them.
Ownership of a permanent cannot change during a game, while control of a permanent can (a control magic for instance changes the controller of a permanent but does not change the owner)
