Thinking of going to an event

Hey guys, as a lot of you probably know I've been VERY casual in the last few years, to be honest before that I only went to the odd pre-release now and then. I'm thinking of going to a few events that my local group has got coming up and the first (this weekend) is a GPT Lyon sealed event (Zen 3 WW 3) followed by a Top 8 Zen Zen WW (which I wouldn't get to anyway). Would you suggest me taking part in an event like this or do you think it might be a bit too much for me at this stage?

I've never really been good at sealed stuff, I always seem to miss any good card combinations; I guess I don't work well under time limits or know the cards well enough to come up with anything decent, I'm a bit scared this will be the case again! :o

I went to the GP in Brussels last saturday and for me it was to much. It had nothing to do with my capabilities as a player, in fact I went 7-2-0 on day 1 and with that I could proceed to day two. I didn't. After 9 rounds of 50 minutes, 1666 players attending, I had a splitting headache and the pairings started at 8 AM the next day and I just wasn't up another day in hell.
My friends who didn't make it to day two (I think I was the only one in a group of 30 guys, most better players then I am) probably want to kill me now, but I can't be bothered with it. I'm a casual player, I like a long slow multiplayer game, no stress, just relaxing and playing. Playing a tournament does not relax me, I know this, the only reason I went was because a friend who is new to the game was going and he wanted me to go with him.

So if I were you don't think in terms of winning or loosing. Think in terms of will I enjoy such an event or not despite the outcome.

I would never go to the GP itself, this is just a grand prix trial, I believe you can get byes for the GP if you win here. It does all sound a bit "pro" though, maybe I'll just wait for the RotE pre-release! ;)

I've never been to any major tournys, but I have been to some smaller ones. I think they are fun. It's kind of a rush. But I can understand how its not for everyone. It is a little nerve racking, and most people play just casual. I do agree with what Seth said about not going thinking about winning or losing. I think once you've been to a few tournaments and get used to it, then you can start worrying about winning... It might be good to go and just see how you like it. If you don't like it than you don't have to do it again...
