The Big, The Bad, The Eldrazi
Hello this is DreadWaffle brining you my second article here on the forums. It has been a while since I made one and it was shoddy at best. So i will try to do better, but this time with the focus only on the Eldrazi. And why not start with the card that was either good or bad. The Eye of Ugin
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Handlers/Image.ashx?multiverseid=197881&type=card
This was the card people for a long time in my area wanted 1-2 of just in case it would be awesome. But did it fail to deliver? I will answer this at the end.
So with the Eldrazi there are three broods. And a complex chain of how they fall into place. I have attempted to make a line of how it goes and this is how it ended.
Ulamog's Brood

But these are only the monstrosities that are beings of colorless magic. But their influence has spread far, corrupting and turning the plane of Zendikar into what it is to this day. A world of dangerous perils. But these Divine powers have a presence making their own broods spread to colors. And to help cast these beings you are given an arsenal of tools.

Most of these are ok but the ones that catch my eye are Skittering Invasion, Brood Birthing, Growth Spasm, and Awakening Zone. The fact that these to me are the most effective of the token generators they will work in the newest deck i was developing besides Splinter Twin, Sacrifice. With the ability to get multiple tokens each turn paired with a few other win conditions, the deck has been looking good.
Current List:
4x Hand of Emrakul
4x Skittering Invasion
4x Mortican Beetle
4x Banefire
4x Brood Birthing
4x Awakening Zone
4x Dragon Appeasement
4x Sprouting Thrinax
4x Scarland Thrinax
4x Eldrazi Temple
4x Akoum Refuge
4x Kazandu Refuge
4x Swamp
4x Mountain
4x Forest
this deck is still in development (hence 4x everything). But for the giant leaders of the Eldrazi, they are all playable, but one seems a bit too good compared to the others.

even my music teacher went to the pre-release just to pick it up. Why people are using this is because of polymorph decks. Right now it "Builds itself". But which way you go makes the difference. The blue set is almost always going to be the same. The difference is what token generators you have, and what your sideboard is. I liked playing Iona-morph and it worked well, but this guy is just strictly better. Protection from basically everything, flying, and annihilator 6. How does your opponent deal with it? If they have some of the few prevent combat damage cards, and that is about it. Of course they can counter the polymorph or destroy the target. Which you can still reset from if you are using the :manau::manag: version or the :manau::manar: version.

here is a story about him, it isn't real, but will happen sometimes. (Casual Game)
"Okay i play my Wisher!"
"Yeah he is fine"
"Okay Pay 20 for wish effect"
"No stifle in my hand"
"Here, we go"
FLIPS OVER BINDER FULL OF ELDRAZI CARDS
"Good Game?"
"..."
and my favorite of the eldrazi is "drum roll"
http://cds032.da1.hwcdn.net/g5y9u5z3/cds/media/images/tcg/products/riseoftheeldrazi/rdfgh8rvhs/EN/0005_MTGROE_EN_LR.jpg
he is just way too easy to cast and a good common card
But as for the Eye, it is a mix between that or the temple, the temple gets the other mana acceleration while it can still tap, but the eye has the tutor effect. With them you most likely will not cast any larger spells until turn 3 (like 5 mana). Because the Eye isn't an Eldrazi itself it makes it a lot worse for using its second effect. I don't think it is as good based on the legendary rule.
I hope you like this article (even though it was for about two things, and just showing off my copy and paste image skills > : D). And i will hopefully post another one again. This has been DreadWaffle, and that is the Insight.
p.s. SERIOUSLY GET GREEN BITTERBLOSSOMS THEY ARE AWESOME

- how do you take an extra turn when you polymorph into Emrakul? Iona is a lot more powerful then Emrakul.
- So will Eye of Urgin deliver???? I couldn't find your answer. In my opnion it's still the worst land ever printed.
- As for the Spawnsire effect, you do know that these cards have to come from the sideboard right?

In a tournament game yes that is how the rules apply, but that was meant for casual and i have added that statement next to it

I think if, and that's a big if, Emrakul would see play in standard poeple would answer him pretty fast with Oblivion rings and journey to nowhere, that or day of judgement and other sweepers. Without haste he's just not that deadly where Iona simply shuts down the color that can remove her, that's badass.
Progenitus is still a better target for polymorph as well as he cannot be targetted by anything unlike Emrakul who is still vulnerable to permanents.

The big thing about Emrakul is that when you cast him, you take an extra turn. This makes Enchantments and Sorcery speed removal spells rather...useless against him. Plus, he's got a "Protection from Colored Spells", which makes Path useless, too. Before you O-ring him, he's going to take 6 of your permanents with him weither you like it or not, and possibly 15 of your life.
I guess that's the reason he's so scary. o.o

o-ring doesn't work, and iona can't target colorless, and iona usually shuts down the color with more removal. Sure day of judgement and other world effects can get him, but he then gets shuffled back into your library

Actually it does, Emrakul has pro-colored spells, not permanents and o-ring doesn't target until its a permanent.

you have to survive the extra turn with 6 permanents loss before you get to that point though. presumably the emrakul player is smart enough to blow away your land and mana generation, so good luck getting bolas out then.

Not really because this entire debate started with polymorph into Emrakul. If you hardcast him you should win, there's no debating that. Play karakas, play Emrakul, beat, bounce, replay....
But 15 mana is a lot so most of the time people will cheat him in and most of the time that means no extra turn (there are exceptions ofcourse). No extra turn means he's not that bad unless you can give him haste (Sharkan Vol, Anger, sneak attack ...).

protection ruling:
A creature with protection from a quality cannot be enchanted, equipped, blocked, or targeted by anything with that quality, and all damage that would be dealt by a source of that quality will be prevented unless the damage can't be prevented. For example, a creature with protection from red cannot be enchanted by red enchantments, blocked by red creatures, targeted by red spells and abilities, or take damage from red sources, barring exceptions which explicitly state otherwise.
therefore o-ring doesn't work because on the stack it is considered a spell, and therefore cannot target emrakul the i win lols. Bolas on the other hand works fine but yeah really, would i play emrakul when you have him out? Yes, hardcast him, and then beat face on my free turn. and karakas ftw

the reason o-ring works is because you don't target until it has come into play and by then it's no longer a spell, it's a permanent.

dude, o-ring works. A guy in this thread already posted a link to an article on the wizard site where they say it works, what more do you want????
What doesn't work is for instance a Rancor on emrakul because rancor targets when it's still a spell (when it's one the stack). Once a spell comes into play it's a permanent and no longer a spell.
PS: I just won a 3 men multiplayer EDH game where I had 19 land and won on hard cast emrakul + Dust elemental eternal turns and swing to death.

O-Ring works. and Seth, I lived through an Emrakul that got channeled out during Cube draft on turn 3. I won the match too.
