Discussion on the current (Post-conflux) metagame

Alright, This is the thread for the metagame in magic, and I'm pretty sure there's not one devoted to just this already (if there is I apologize). Anyways, Conflux coming out brought with it in the beginning 5 major contenders (according to GPs anyways). Those contenders were:
BW Tokens
BR Aggro
RW Boat Brew (or Lark, or whatever)
Faeries
and 5color control.

not all that everyone plays, but they were big contenders at GPs, so they're common decks. now, what does everyone think is going to get big pre- and post- Alara Reborn?

First of all, faeries were big before conflux, in fact, conflux didn't add much for faeries.
More on the topic, I think that stuff using bloodbraid elf is going to be really big. That seems to be the most used card from the set so far. I mean, a 3/2 hasty creature with cascade is pretty sick. I am actually working on a cascade version of 5cc. Anyway, I think that exalted colors are becoming much more powerful and b/r agro is way more powerful now.

well, i suppose this topic is Post-alara now. Fae got hit really hard by banefire and fallout, so i expect them to stay in the shadows, winning the occasional tournament where no one's prepared for 'em.

Tokens, BW and GW, are becoming more and more prevalent these days. Turbo Fog's getting played, thanks to it winning Japanese Regionals. BR Blightning got huge boosts from thought hemmorhage and anathemancer, which hit 5cc pretty hard. The metagame could go a variety of ways at this point, it's all wait-and-see from here.

I am actually really annoyed that BW tokens and GW tokens are so big right now. Especially because I don't think the decks are that incredibly strong. I think that they are a continuous stream of creatures, which is hard to deal with, but I think a good player with a good control deck, or an aggro deck that can get around those stupid little 1/1's are much better. I think the fact that everyone is playing tokens now just shows how unoriginal people are. Its usually one person who makes a deck, and then it becomes a prototype or skeleton for a lot of other decks. Personally, I worked out an aggro deck using mostly the new sets (with a total of 4 cards from lorwyn and shadowmoore) that has absolutely crushed tokens in play testing. But then again, I am not sure how it is going to fair against cruel control and fog, all though I think a deck that is too much aggro for tokens to handle is probably too much for control as well.

Meta is from the greek word meaning after. so literally it means aftergame. The metagame is what is going on in the world of magic with respect to the players and what and how they are playing. So when people say the meta has a lot of aggro, that just means there are a lot of people around them playing aggro style decks.
Hope this answers your question.
