Affinity for artifacts opinion

If you have, say, 7 artifact creatures (or lands), and you play Lodestone Myr, since it has no colored land in it, could you play it for free?
I was playing with my friends theme deck from Mirrodin, and we both had conflicting opinions on it, so any comments would help...:o

Yes refer to the Affinity Rules listed here:

http://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Article.aspx?x=magic/faq/mirrodin

It states that the cost can't go below zero and that if it has coloured mana that it can't reduce that cost of the coloured mana but as it doesn't have coloured mana then it can reduce it to zero therefore casting it for nothing. :D

I do that a lot with the frogmites in my Esper deck. They're not really all that good, but they add another artifact to power my Carnial Plating so they serve some purpose.

Yep, exactly how affinity works. You'll never get negative but if he had affinity you'd be able to drop a darksteel colossus for free if you had enough artifacts on the board. That's why skullclamp was broken too, one of the only limiters once an affinity deck got up steam was how many cards they could draw.
