Most disappointing card?

I'm just wondering if you were ever really excited about a card that was coming out, and then when it finally did, was just extremelly underwhelming? What card, or cards, was it?

For me its got to be Grave Titan. There is nothing wrong with the card, and I love the card. I opened one in the prerelease, and immediately bought 3 more at almost $30 a piece. I thought for sure it would find a deck, or the price would go up. Well neither has happened. So I thought, maybe when Scars comes out it will find a deck. Still I don't think it will. The problem isn't with the card itself, but the rest of the black card in standard just don't help it at all. I've got a pretty fun Eldrazi Monument deck with it, but that will never be more than a casual deck, and it makes me sad.

Anyways, your guys' turn...

I think the Portal got lots of hype, but I've been thinking since I first seen it that its a bit expencive to do something really game breaking. Plus with all the artifact hate, its sure to become a target, and a 2fer...

I was very excited about Contagion Engine, it looked great with the -1/-1 counters it throws around and double proliferate, but when it finally released it's cost was just too high for it to be usable for me and I could get the timing down. So now it just collects dust on my shelf. =/

I kind agree with you here. Even the Clasp is a bit too expensive to play. 2 isn't too much to play it, but the ability costing 4 is a bit high. Although, I built a Proliferate deck today on MTGO that is basically a :manau::manab: control deck (I'm going to post the deck list to get some help), and both the engine and the clasp work great in it, because the deck slows the game down enough that they can be effective. But that is a deck built to utilize it, and I think everyone gave that card so much hype, and thought it was going to just kick some major ass, but it is too slow as you said.

Yea, a friend of mine also built a pretty good deck around the Engine and Clasp as well, but I actually decided to focus more on Infect when it came to scars. In fact, I have 2 decks dedicated to this mechanic because I find it very enjoyable. I have a faster paced quick killer, and because people compain about it when I use it in casual, I made a very fun Infect deck for use in casual group settings.

Back to the Engine, the proliferate as I noticed tends to actually work better when used for artifacts, for Charge counters. But even still, the best proliferater(imo) is Thrumming Bird, mostly because it doesn't have a mana cost to proliferate, you just have to attack, and after your first proliferate the card basically pays for itself mana-wise, especially when compared to the Clasp.

Grave Titan is actually amazing because you can run it with cards like Clone, Mimic Vat and Venser. Frost Titan is the one that's going up while Grave Titan is going down, but for me, I'd much rather have board presence than just tapping something my opponent has.

I really haven't had a card disappoint me yet. I sort of expect all the cards to go down in value, and most of them do.

I find that Grave Titan is amazing when used alongside Death Baron. At that point you're spawning up deathtouch blockers for free.

Now on the flip-side of the Titans, I actually think Primeval Titan is overrated, mostly because by the time you can use it; you don't really need it. It just provides overkill for your lands. =/
