Some noob questions
OK, I was playing and this card came up
Rith, the Awakener
Rules: Flying Whenever Rith, the Awakener deals combat damage to a player, you may pay {2}{G}. If you do, choose a color. Put a 1/1 green Saproling creature token into play for each permanent of that color.
----------
1. So, if I understand this card right, When Rith attacks, you say Red. On the table, there are 2 red creatures, a red enchant, and 4 red lands. This would result in 7 1/1 tokens on the board.
2. These are independent creatures that can be sent to attack individually? Or are they a horde that has to band together? Assume they could be used to block 7 different incoming attacks?
3. If Rith dies, do they stay in play?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
General other card questions
1. Do artifacts suffer from summoning sickness like creatures, or can they be immediately put into play? Same question for artifact creatures.
2. Can maximum health go above 20? was presented with a white card that healed 1 point each round (on tap). The player was attempting to bump their max health above 20 with it.
3. Attempted to use Fog to block a Lightning bolt. But since that is an instant, it's not "combat damage" so can't be blocked? What about sorcery damage spells (Lava Axe)
4. Do (should) decks be limited to exactly 60 cards, or is a bit over that OK? My black/green deck hits 70 by the time I get everything in it I want. I know tourney play is exactly 60 with a 15 sidebard, but what about casual play?
-----------
I think that is it for now, more noobish questions pending I'm sure :)

1) When Rith "deals combat damage to a player" you name the color, not when it attacks. Also, lands are colorless permanents so they don't count.
2) The tokens are all independent creatures and have no ties to anything else on the battlefield.
3) Rith's death has no impact on them. The only way he would have an impact is if it stated that on the card or if they were a result of a static ability.
Other:
Artifacts do not suffer from summoning sickness so they can be tapped once they are put onto the field. Artifact creatures on the other hand do suffer from it and can't attack first turn out. Keep in mind any artifact (or land) that is turned into a creature WILL suffer from summoning sickness if they were just played.
There are no bounds for the amount of life one person can have (see Test of Endurance). Thanks to cards like Celestial Mantle your life total gets exponentially larger, and cards like Abyssal Persecutor and Platinum Angel that allow your life total to become negative without a certain player losing the game.
Combat damage is classified as any damage that is dealt during battle, spells and abilities that deal damage are considered "noncombat" damage, therefore it does not apply to instants or sorceries.
There is no upper limit to deck size. Also, as far as I know there is no upper limit to tournament size either. The only reason that I know of that people limit tournament deck to 60 is to minimize the odds of not getting what they need. (I could be wrong about that) Sideboards on the other hand are either 0 or 15.
I hope I was of some assistance.

Yes, great assistance, thank you.
I'm learning that many people play the game very differently... so much of it is open to interpretation it seems, then you have house rules...
I'm trying to learn it "right", so when we do start going to tournaments, we can be on par with normal methods/interpretations.
Thanks again for the answer

I'm pretty sure your deck has to be at least 60 cards and you have to be able to shuffle it unassisted with just your hands. So as long as you can shuffle your deck you can have as many cards in it as you want.

MtG revised its universal rules and now it states that in order for a creature to attack it has to go through an untap step by the controller of the card. There is no longer a reference to summoning sickness, although it is part of the vocabulary of long time MtG players. Only creatures with "Haste" can attack without going through the controller's untap step.
Cards that are tapped for abilities, other than creatures, can be tapped right away after they "resolve" (come into play), provided you have priority.
Each time a phase starts the active player has priority. After a spell resolves on a stack the active player generally gets to add to the current stack or start a new stack first.
Priority is why Planeswalkers were so difficult to deal with. If played, and allowed to resolve, then the controller gets to use one of its ability as the first spell on a new stack. Generally, because it isn't an instant, when it resolves there aren't other spells waiting to resolve.
