Best Lock Down Control Cards?
Hey everyone. I've been wanting to make for a long time a deck that locks down my opponent. Back in my yugioh playing days i had a deck with only high defense monsters to protect me, while i would play spells that would do damage to my opponent for anything and everything they do. For example, whenever you play a card you lose 500 life points, you lose 500 life points whenever you declare an attack, and so on.
Are there any cards like that in Magic? I'm sure there are, i've just never sought them out to know of many. Anyway, the deck i'm thinking of making is one with the control cards to control enough where i can use Quest for Ula's Temple.
Thanks in advance for any input!

Blue/White is the better colour combo for that type of play, Blue gives you tons of denial options and card advantage, while White gives you protection and life management options.
examples:
Wall of Denial is still one of the best blockers
Ghostly Prison is great at really slowing down aggro and/or token decks
Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker punishes opponents no matter how they damage you.

Yeah i was already planning on going Blue/White with it. I had already known about Ghostly Prison as well and was planning on using it haha. Michiko is interesting. Definitely an option.
I guess i'm looking more for cards like Manabarbs where whatever my opponent will do, they get hurt in some way or another. Manabarbs isn't the best example, but that's one card i always think of when i think about making a deck like my yugioh one.

I've enjoyed a white/red control deck for years.
It's creatureless, making Wrath of God (Day of Judgment) much nicer, and uses man-lands like Mishra's Factory (Mutavault) to attack afterwards.
It uses red for things like Lightning Bolt and Incinerate (and there are lots of cheap burn options) to deal with early creatures and to help kill my opponent (it likes to put these in Isochron Scepters). It also uses Disenchants for the non-creature threats.
It uses Land Tax (+ Zuran Orb) + Scroll Rack for card-drawing, and Humility for sustained creature-nerfing. Balance gets it out of jams. I can't think at the moment of good modern replacements for these, though.
I think you might enjoy this basic design. Use cheap removal (Lightning Bolt, Condemn, etc.) for early creatures, sweepers (like Day of Judgment) to keep things from getting out of hand, and use the time to build some way to keep dealing damage (Mutavaults, Isochron Scepter with burn, etc.). Don't forget the Disenchants.

- Vesuvan Shapeshifter + Brine Elemental is a hard lock I played for a while
- Stasis can hard lock with for instance Vedalken Mastermind so you don't suffer the stasis effect yourself
- Winter Orb + something to tap it so you bypass it in your turn
