help. new to MTG

i am new to magic. i played very little back in high school 13 years ago. i am trying to build a deck and get the hang of it. i play the game on xbox live. i went to the store and bought alara reborn. what cards can you use in a deck? can u use cards from all the expansion decks or do you have to stay within your type aka alara reborn. please help

First off, do you have a good grasp on the rules? If not, go to the Wizards website and check out the official rules. Secondly, are you wanting to have fun and play Magic with friends, or get competitive and enter the FNM (Friday Night Magic) and the tourney scene? If you wanna play w/friends, then use whatever cards you want when you make a deck. If you enter tournies, then there are different types (type 1, type 2, extended, legacy and vintage) that you have to follow.

The biggest thing you need to do is find others to play with. I quit a long time ago when I thought no one was interested in it anymore and almost sold all my cards. I later moved for college and started to work nights at the local wal-mart and on my first lunch break everyone was playing and that got me back into it. We now have tournaments and everything on a weekly basis. So make sure to get your friends into it.
