Sounds like not a very fun group to play with. I think there are a couple things you could do. You could:
-Try explaining why for example he doesn't get the extra turn when played with Elvish Piper. (Trying to explain will probably be the least affective, since it seems like they think they know all to be known already)
-Find other people to play with. (Kinda hard, cause there is usually just one group of people that play together)
-Show them this forum and tell them how great it is to get deck ideas and help or whatever, then we can show them the error in there ways. (You can't argue with the things you read on the interwebs, right?)
-Beat them to a bloody pulp until they submit to you as their master... (Could be the most affective tactic)

You could do any combination of these things I mentioned to help you with your problem. What ever you do, the bloody pulp thing should be included no matter what...

Also... Women don't belong in the kitchen? Ok, thats a joke... haha... What you could do is just beat them with Kitchen Finks , and say "Their's your kitchen bitches"... lol.

in a group made of university players there's probably at least one person there with a smartphone or laptop...if there's disagreements about rules just suggest to look it up online.

also, it's usually easier not to challenge misconception directly, telling them they've been playing wrong all this time. Try asking to check because you want to see how the rule is actually written, so it can be made clearer to you.

then when you discover something they're interpreting wrong you can 'discover' that together.

easier to change a group from within than convincing them the new outsider knows better than them.

that being said, they don't sound like they're people worth playing with.

good news they aren't the only players there. they are just a group that hates all 6th edition and newer rules . they seem to have made things up as they went along and most of the players there ignore them.

That is good news. I was out of the game for about 5 years before the Alara block, and I almost didn't want to get back into the game when I heard about all the changes made with M10, but once I actually got playing it was still fun even if it was differant. So maybe some day they will see the light and stop being the outcast group... lol. If not at least they have their group, and you found yours.

Well that is certainly eventful.

The groups sounds like a guy I know who hates on this other Magic player just because she is a girl. People just kinda ignore him until he starts being extra douchy, in which case everyone sides with her and usually tells him to leave. Personally I love when girls play Magic (or other card games), and currently I am teaching my girlfriend how to play (she asked me to). She's been practicing using my Cat deck.
