I tried, but in the process I became really exited at some enter-the-battlefield effects and decided to skip most of the life-gain.

This should get your life total skyrocketing. Not much protection vs. Annihilator but at least the Elixirs of Immortality may help against a Mill deck.

Lifegain where sun titan is part of "try to kill me" combo enjoy your emeria + sun titan and life just keeps on coming and growing pridemate, and if some die... just don't care opponent has tough life killing you so in anycase ... you'll have lotsa time, BUT you can also go and play agro and over run opponent by turn 5 EASILY, if serra ascendant goes 6/6 you win... without problem.
Also it's so enjoyable to put on serra ascendant an armored ascention and swing for 5-20 each turn and gain life, draw cards, make HUGE creatures, grow pridemate
