-1/-1 counters
I know that when a creature has first strike and deals damage in the form of -1/-1 counters that the counters take effect before normal combat damage is delt.
But if they don't have first strike or each attacking and blocking creature has first strike when do the -1/-1 counters take effect. is it after the compat phase or is it during the cleanup phase after your turn is over?
Also is there a way to search through the forums so I don't keep asking questions that have already been answered? (without going page by page)

Phyrexian Crusader versus Brass Squire:
First strike phase ends, Squire is now a 0/1 dealing normal combat damage, in this case 0 b/c of the -1/-1 counters.
Phyrexian Crusader versus Black Knight:
First strike phase ends, Crusader dies from lethal damage, Black Knight becomes 0/0 due to -1/-1 counters, thus sending it to the graveyard.
