Electrostatic Bolt as a Counterspell
I was playing with a friend and I case Ondu Cleric (http://magiccards.info/zen/en/30.html).
Then he responds it with Electrostatic Bolt (http://magiccards.info/mi/en/89.html) and kills it.
Then he claims he killed the cleric before it entered the battlefield as a response, so I didn't get the life and that you can do that with damage instants.
This kinda wages war against my rule knowledge. Isn't creature still a spell, before it enters the battlefield? But he claimed hard that he had a similar thing happen to him at a tournament x.x
I'm kinda confused here and hope someone can englighten me. Is such a thing possible? Can you kill a creature before it enters the battlefield like that?

nope, you were right.
the only way he can target it as a creature is after it's entered the battlefield.

Yeah, now I'm sure, since everyone else I've asked have said that he was wrong. Thanks both of you ^^
