Lifelink Question...

Simple question - couldn't find it in the rulings, so maybe someon can help. Can you "lifelink" more life than damage done, or is it limited to the damage done?

Example:
I attack with a 5/5 creature with lifelink, my opponent defends with a 1/1 weenie. Do I gain 5 life or 1 life?

To put it simply you gain life equal to the power of the creature who has lifelink.

If I swing with a Baneslayer Angel and they block with a Squadron Hawk, I gain 5 life.
