1 color decks, disadvantages?

So I haven't played much Magic since the Tempest expansion and am just getting back into it. I've noticed a lack of single color decks and was wondering why. Is it just because of all the recent gold cards that have been in the recent expansions or are there one color killers that I am not seeing. I am looking at examples from the Standard format as that is what I'd be playing with. There don't seem to be any circle of protection cards like the old days that would completely nuetralize a 1 color deck but maybe I'm overlooking something. If anyone has insight please let me know. Right now I am trying to build a solid white deck.

your solid white deck looks pretty similar to one i'm tinkering with currently too. I also have a solid red deck which does pretty good in casual play against my friends, i'm going to take it to a magic event soon.

I cant recall the name of the card, but I think there is a zendikar Mythic that gives permanent protection from a chosen color.

Mono color is good, just not in Standard right now. I play in Legacy where mono red Sligh and Mono Black Control or Suicide are still good. Stompy is even good in Legacy still or even Mono White Stax.
