Prepping My First Cube

My group doesn't play regularly at all and I've always wanted to play some sort of draft with them. So I'm working in a cube for just that purpose. It's a loooong way from ready for the first go, but that's okay since half my friends aren't even in state during the school year. I hope to get it into decent shape by the time they return. All cards are commons. I would be willing to go into uncommons, but I think we still get some interesting options this way and I think it will be easier to balance the colors this way. I'd prefer not to expand to uncommons unless it becomes apparent that one or two colors are incredibly broken or others are nerfed from the word go.

Anyway, I've started off with about 75 cards of each color. We've only six people usually so with those, gold cards, and colorless cards, I've got too many cards. I could probably do to cut each color by 15-20 cards.

Second, this was done on the fly and I haven't had as much free time as I had hoped to go through the rest of my collection and look for better cards. I know some can be dropped outright and others should be traded out for better options.

And finally these are all cards I have in my collection. I'd prefer to stick to cards I already have but am not opposed to buying some if it would really make for some better drafting.

Here's the color I've uploaded so far, black: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=171115

And green: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=173082

And white: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=173083

And red: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=173085

And blue: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=173084

And colorless: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=173086

And gold: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=173087

I'd love any comments, feedback, cards to drop or switch out, and so on. The other colors will follow in this post as I get them uploaded. Like I said, free time is very limited right now but I wanted to get some feedback and ideas on this.

Awesome, I'm glad to see cube picking up popularity on these forums :) I'm still a cube-noob myself, but I'll check it out and comment tomorrow when I'm less tired and more awake.

Also keep an eye out, I'll start a community developed cube discussion in the competition forums in a day or two as well.

Yeah, it's incredible to me how many variants Magic has. I didn't even know about this until a recent article, I think from CarKingdom, in my email. It sounds like exactly what I want... well, I want draft, but this is a lot cheaper. :D

Read this. It's gonna help for sure, because the first thing I noticed when I looked at your cube was a lack of focus. This isn't a pile of cards, this is much more complex than that. Cubedrafting.com is a great site in general to just learn as much about cube drafting and construction as possible. You're building a format, not just piling cards together.
