Very Frustrated, Need help please!

So I spent close to $1000.00 building a Green/White deck that I had 14 years ago. My goal was to create a beat down/ modern ernham meggadon deck. I decided to recreate it using the best cards from each set making it a Legacy deck. Last night I play against 2 standard decks and I lose to both. 1 Was an all white knight deck and the other was an infect deck. How does a $1000.00 deck loose to a $100.00 deck? It does not make sense. Is it possible to make 1 G/W legacy deck that is versatile against different types of decks? Has MTG decks lost there versatility? I don’t believe in spending lots of $ to continue to buy cards, why can’t we build 1 or 2 decks that are versatile.
How can I make this deck better or more versatile against infect or any of the new decks out there?

Well, generally "beatdown" or aggro decks can't always be that versatile. Decks are still designed very versatile and that's why most have a 15 card sideboard to prevent the decks from being stalled out due to a singular color or card combination.

Also, I wouldn't generally run with 4 Path to Exile maindecked with another 4 Swords to Plowshares. That's more of the use for the sideboard to be honest, maindecking 8 creature removal spells, when you're not even 100% sure you'll be playing against an aggro deck is dead draws.

If I remember correctly also, Mox Diamond is restricted. Meaning you can only have one in your deck. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

And just as an idea... even a cheap deck can be VERY fast. And somewhat versatile...
Example: Kiln Fiend (I know... fetchlands aren't THAT cheap)

mox diamond is illegal in most tournament types and when it's legal you can only have it 1X in your deck

You can have 4 diamonds in your deck in legacy format.

through player skill, draw luck and deck tuning.

MTG would be a pretty boring/pointless game if simply throwing money at a deck was a sure way to beat everything else.

poeple please check your facts when stating stuff like card restriction. Legacy for starters has no restricted cards and mox diamond is legacy legal.

Now I saw the content of the deck was removed and I'm curious to what it was. It is not that unlikely to loose with a legacy deck playing versus a standard deck. Both have a very different meta and legacy decks are usually very meta dependent.
The legacy deck I'm playing at the moment for instance has a very bad matchup when playing versus non legacy decks while it's one of the top legacy decks at the moment.
