ruling: first stike Vs. deathtouch

Vs.
Vampire Nighthawk I believe it was. (if not that, some card with deathtouch)

Paladin (attacker) dies, Hawk (blocker) dies or both die?

the first strike damage resolves and kills the deathtouch creature before it deals any damage.

Both above are correct, the first-striker would deal its damage to the nighthawk before the nighthawk could do damage. Unless the creature with death touch has higher toughness than first-striker's power, death toucher dies.
