Can imagecrafter turn a regular creature into an artifact creature?

No. Artifact creature is a metatype, not a creature type.

If you could use Imagecrafter to add artifact to a creature, you could also use Imagecrafter to add instant, sorcery, plainswalker, land, legendary, etc.

A few examples of creature types:
Wizard
Ally
Goblin
Human
Merfolk
Vampire
