Protection Question

Hey, I have a black-white deck (no I am not trying to change it up, so this is Gen. Disc.) and I was playing my Stillmoon Cavalier (luckily got the guys before there price shot up!) and then I played Deathbringer Liege (the black white liege)
Now if stillmoon has protection from black and white, does the lieges other black/white creatures you control get +2/+2 still go through to him or not. I honestly wouldn't know where to look. I am still new to the game and the rules are still passed me sometimes. (You have no idea how long it took for the idea of "the stack" to finally click). My friend who has been playing for sometime insists he doesn't get the boost, which i can see his side, but I can also see have protection from something meaning can't be blocked by, receive damage or be the target of spells or abilities thing. It's not even an activated ability, since it's static I figure it would stay. I dunno thanks for reading this stupid long post that could have been shortened to a matter of 10 words

The key to why this works is the wording of Deathbringer Liege. The abilities it has to give your white and black creatures +1/+1 do not say "target". Therefore the ability does not actually target any creatures, it is more like a state-based effect in that it just does what it says arbitrarily. So it will still give creatures that have protection the bonuses.
