Why is Mirror-Mad Phantasm so special?

I understand that this card is super good for "self" mill decks but is there another good reason why this card is so great? http://gatherer.wizards.com/pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=227297

Well, you can use it in conjunction with Blightsteel colossus and warstorm surge (or their non-standard equivalents like the Eldrazi progenitors (instead of Blightsteel)), so that you can blast your opponent for 20 damage using only 8 mana without accidentally milling yourself to death.

What makes you say it's a good card? To me it looks like a really bad card. If I'm going to play something that costs 5 mana I want it to win me the game there and then. That card doesn't look like it win's games on the spot.

This card alone does not win games. However, the synergy between it and the other graveyard-based cards in Innistrad and Dark Ascension is amazing.

Considering using this card in conjunction with a Laboratory Maniac or a Skaab Ruinator.

5 mana for a 5/1 with flying is not that great, but you must consider all of the cards that came out with it. Not to mention a 5 power flyer can get in some good beats if they have no flying defense. Worse comes to worse, use his ability and he will evade the damage and come back for more.

i agree with Triple, it's one of those creatures that needs other cards to make it better, exspecialy clone effs and maniac. if you can get it out with enough life to survive a turn, a desperate ravings in graveyard or deck, a phantasmal image in hand, one extra mana after playing him, and a laboratory maniac on field, you win next turn. yea its alot of cards to have to have the combo go off. There are few cards that are good by theirselves
