Respond to Invigorate with Incinerate?

Hi, this question has been spreading controversy with my friends. Please help!

The situation goes like this:

Opponent attacks me with a 1/1 flying infect (Plague Stinger).
I declare no blockers.
He responds with a +4/+4 pump. (Invigorate)
In response to his pump, I deal 3 direct damage to his creature with Incinerate.

If I am correct the stack would look like this:
TOP
Incinerate
Invigorate
Bottom

Now the way I see it, Incinerate resolves first. Killing his 1/1 Plague Stinger. Then Invigorate comes into play but since it's target is dead it fizzles.
Therefore, his Plague Stinger dies, Invigorate has no effect, and I receive no combat damage.
Am I correct?

Correct. Since Incinerate was the most recently cast spell, then it will resolve first, killing the Plague Stinger. Invigorate will then be countered for not having any legal targets.
