Beginner deck
I am in the process of introducing a n00b to Magic. I want to make her a really simple deck or two, just so she has something to play with and can learn the mechanics. I don't want it to be expensive to build, I don't want it to have a ton of mechanics beyond some VERY simple ones. Ideas? I was thinking of trying to make either 5 very simple mono decks, or maybe one mono and a couple 2-color decks. I am open for suggestions as to what cards to use. I don't want these to be crippled decks - they should have a chance. I was thinking, maybe a simple mono-red Burn deck, a simple mono-blue denial, maybe a white/green weenie deck, and a black..... something?
Alternately, would one of the event decks be useful for a true beginner? I haven't looked at any of them, to see how many mechanics they have.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I designed this thing essentially for exactly what you're describing. This deck consists of all commons, thus easy to build. It's very straight-forward in what it does, and no mechanic in it is complicated at all. It's very inexpensive, but can be built upon as the player grows and wants to make changes to it. It's also surprisingly fast, so no need to worry about it being "crippled". =]
