Experimantal Draw/Burn deck
I am currently trying out a blue/red deck the focuses on drawing cards and making your opponent lose life. The deck centers on Niv-Mizzet, The Firemind, and the Psychosis Crawlers. I would like help to see if this deck would even work as well as i think it would, or if it can with a little improvement.

EDIT: I made a few changes to the deck, added a few cards to help with creature control like Silent Departure and I added Silver Myrs to help with mana.

I'm not a fan of the Laboratory Maniacs in this deck. If your goal is to kill your opponent by drawing cards, then you probably only want to go through about half of your deck during a game. I would recommend putting a couple Consecrated Sphinxs in their place, and maybe finding room for a full set of sphinxs.
I'm also skeptical about Artful Dodge. If it ends up working out well, then cool. Otherwise I might recommend either some countermagic or more card draw in the form of Ponder, Think Twice, or Desperate Ravings.
Whatever you decide, I think this is a cool idea. Good Luck :)

Your deck requires a lot of mana to start working, you're going to have a rough time surviving against fast decks.

I thought that might be a problem, thats why most of the other cards are low cost exceot Niv-Mizzet and a couple others. I am going to try to find a way around this.

The only reason i added theLaboratory Maniac is because of all the draw, i am liable to run out rather quickly, but good point though. I like those sphinxs but they are a little expensive, but then again so is Niv-Mizzet. The artful dodges i was going to use to make the cards that let me draw a card when i do combat damage like the Tandem Lookouts unblockable, so i get to draw. If they don't seem to be working well i will probably replace them with Ponder since i like that card.

You can sort of overcome your problem with fast decks using, say, Pyroclasm or something like that. At least in the sideboard.
Blue Sun Zenith is a little too expensive right now, and doesn't work well with non-monoblue decks. You could consider replacing it with Stroke of Genius if you're soo adamant about using the X factor.
And don't bother gaining life. Spellbook will work out much better than Venser's Journal.

Blue Sun's Zening is a 1$ card which you claim is expensive and instead you suggest Stroke of Genius which is like 7$.
Spellbook is a horrible card that has been totally replaced by the fantastic card that is Reliquary Tower.

...I don't know what's the word for "costs a lot of mana". That's what I use in my language, so I just translated thinking it would have the same meaning.
And yeah, Reliquary Tower is better, but both are better than Verser's Diary in the first place.

Blue sun's zenith costs the same amount of mana as Stroke of Genius it's just more difficult with the :manau::manau::manau: requirement as you already pointed out.
But you said "Blue Sun Zenith is a little too expensive right now" which can not reffer to price in money of the card as the casting cost of that card isn't going to change.

Oh, I see. I'm so sorry, I expressed myself the wrong way. What I meant is that it costs a lot of mana, but if he wants to use it so badly, it's better to replace it with Stroke of Genius.

Ok, I like Reliquary Tower, I'm just going to use a couple of those instead of spell book or Venser's Journal.
