Comet Storm two headed giant

I was playing two headed giant the other day, and I cast Comet storm, and kicked it twice, thinking that I could target one opponent, then the other, and essentially deal double damage to my opponents since they share a life total. This caused an argument over the validity of the move.
Essentially my thought on it was, there are two valid targets. Since there are two separate fields that can be attacked through, there are two players that can be targeted.
The thought of my opponent was that since they share a life total they both constitute only one target.

That's totally valid. Sharing a life total does not make them one target. It's more like they each have a life total of forty plus a clause that says when one takes damage, so does the other. So if you comet storm them for five each, they take ten total.

On a side note, this is why Heartless Hidetsugu is broken in 2HG.
