Cowardice Question

I'm sure this is a simple stack question, but...

I have Cowardice and a Riptide Mangler on the battlefield. The Mangler's ability targets a 2/2 creature. Cowardice bounces the 2/2 back to its owner's hand. Does the Mangler get a power of 2, or does the effect fizzle?

i am pretty sure it will not get the change to its power since the creature will be bounced before the effect can take action. i could be wrong though. awesome name by the way.

Since the target of the ability is not in play when the ability attempts to resolve, the ability fizzles. The mangler will be stuck at whatever power it had prior to the Cowardice coming into play but on the bright side you've got a repeatable bounce for 1U which is pretty awesome.
