Deck Description

Played at FNM went 3-2 came in 5th. Extremely close to winning 4th round with a shut out 1st game win, nothing but land screwed 2nd game, and an extremely close 3rd game in which I could swing for 12 when opponent was at 14 but if top card was anything but a swamp for Nocturnus I could have been a swung for 20, but of course it ended up being a swamp so my undefeated 3-0 went to 3-1.

Only card I'm kinda not feelin is Geth's Verdict. I'll keep it for now as I'm unsure what to replace it with.

Appreciate comments and advice, hit me with that criticism peoples

Deck discussion for Standard Vampires B/R

Remarkably similar to my T2 vampire deck. I do have one red spell (arc trail) instead of duress, but it helps so much it's worth it despite nocturnus.

Check it out, ive been using a different version (this isnt legal quite yet) at FNM and it has proven to be quite succseful.

I like how you are running this deck. You are using Nocturnes the way it was meant to be, by using the control side of vamps. Stromkirk Captain is more aggro.

While the captain can be very powerful in aggro, having first strike makes dangerous blockers. Id say, of ALL the cards in the deck (even nocturnus) that the captain has the highest influence on winning.

If the Captains must stay, I would still drop 1 of them plus 3 interlopers to incorporate 4 Blood Artist

yeah I actually seriously thought about the blood artists they seem annoying which is a plus for me so at some point I'm sure ill try them out. As for captains they probably gonna stay, First strike is like one of my all time favorite abilities in MTG. Appreciate the input though.

Dude, dude, its me. Like, fer sure dude.

And I gotta say, I got my shit kicked in the other night while play testing with a friend of mine and his new M13 vampire deck. Nocturnus with a Nighthawk and a flipped Bloodline and a few durdlers and he swung for 24 for the one turn swing win. Pretty terrible feeling.

I'm not a huge fan of Blood Artist without Mortarpod or some kind of sacrifice outlet and recurrence like how Zombies use it. While Nocturnus is amazing in mono-black like you have it, I wanna say Stromkirk Noble could almost be better depending. Obviously against Delver/Vapor Snag its worthless, but against stuff like Humans, it could steal wins fast.

Other than that. Sign in Blood is the shit. Got killed by that one time. 2 life, pay 2 black, win, yeah, seems good. Also, Duress is back and welcomed greatly. Fuck Despise.

I should post my Standard Reanimator. It's codenamed "Raisin' Brand" and its done decently haha.

This is like 90% Black and 10% red. If you could make it pure black instead, then I think it would really be better. Maybe remove duress and add more board control spells like Arc Trail. The worst thing a vampire deck could go against is a good blocker. You need good spells to kill those blockers with Flying too. Pretty solid though.

I have duress since I have no 1 drops so it gives me something to do turn 1, plus I like an early look at what I'm in for and a chance to get rid of some surely nasty annoying card that would cause trouble for my Nocturnus and such later on. I'll see how it plays but I'm kinda feelin duress for now.

and obviously the reason its mostly black is because of Nocturnus's ability. If the captains and Olivia weren't part black I would probably actually consider removing them and going mono but I love first stike and Olivia seems handy late game.

After I've had a chance to play some I'll be able to more accurately decide what to change. Thanks for the comment though, I do like arc trail alot.
