Deck Description

I have been making trespasser curse decks for a long time and this version seems to be the most consistent by using a discard foundation.

I started off constructing the deck by playing copies of Karn instead of Lili. This lets me put the rack and ensaring bridge type of effects in the sideboard. In the mainboard I filled those slots with a secondary creature-burn game plan based around trespasser's curse, mercy killing, batwing brume, and forbidden orchard. It’s also worth mentioning that Karn’s static compliments the potential drawback from playing wrench mind.

A big addition to this deck is oath of kaya. Ensaring bridge has a much higher upside than oath of kaya, but oath is much more versatile because it can pressure aggro, planeswalker, and if all else fails it can go face which makes it better in multiples. Instead of playing sweepers we are banking on getting orbs of warding, ensaring bridge, and amulet of safekeeping from sideboard based on what the situation calls for. This lets us instead play fog effects in the mainboard, making oath of kaya even better because you can get extra value from the second effect. Diversifying our deck by having access to both oath (enchantment) and bridge (artifact) is also valuable.

An important combination for this deck is playing a karn or davriel while you have a mana open for darkness. For example, with 5 lands you can play Karn, search ensaring bridge, keep Karn alive with darkness, play ensaring bridge the turn after so you can continue to get more activations out of Karn.

The deck has no way of pressuring planeswalkers, so I thought a single copy of the elderspell in the sideboard was worth the inclusion.

How to Play

Very open to any suggestions or questions!!! Feel free to comment :)

Mana base:
16 black sources for 95.1% probability of turn 1 discard (not including orchard)
10 white sources for 89.7% probably of turn 3 oath of kaya (including orchard)

24 lands might seem like a lot for a low curve deck but with Karn we are surprisingly mana hungry. We can also discard extra lands to raven’s crime and collectivize brutality if we flood out.

Sideboard:
Amulet - Good against tokens, can slow down discard and burn
Bridge - Creature decks
Map - Can search orchard, castle, blinkmoth
Casket - Removal
Cage - Graveyard and library hate
Coating - Used in combination with karns static; good vs planeswalkers
Lattice - Shuts opponent out of mana with karn
Orb - Basically amulet of safekeeping except on steroids
Needle - Good vs planeswalkers
Scepter - situational, mana sync
Rack - Discard deck... duh
Crypt - Personal preference over other options bcuz can search and play immediately even if tapped out of mana
Jar - Protection, recursion

Deck discussion for Orhov Karn's Curse and Discard

man, I quite like this build. especially the Annex, Witchbane, amulet and bridge you can grab out of the SB with karn.

would you consider Orbs of Warding instead of Witchbane? Oath is an interesting one too I never considered, lol

Oh shit I didn’t even know that card existed! Definitely going to make the cut over witchbane.

And exactly I really like the addition of karn a lot. Using discard as the base of the deck + karn means I can put ensnaring bridge and the rack into the sideboard which most discard decks run main board. Discard is very flexible in that in can deal with a lot of decks and karn is also very flexible in the same aspect. In the past my builds of traspassers curse were extremely good against creature decks but basically unwinnable versus other decks especially control. Davriel is super good into control and so Is discard in general. One of davriel main weakness is creature decks sothe fogs + oath compliment him nicely. Also karn’s passive/static ability is pretty sweet because artifact decks fuck over wrench mind. Also I get to run 2 copies of orchard main board + expedition map in the sideboard so if I need it to close the game can always search that up.

The main problem I see with this deck is it’s inability to deal with enchantments, but one neat trick is I can search liquimetal coating from sideboard, makes their enchantment into an artifact, +1 to karn so that enchantment becomes a creature, then I can kill it with a removal spell. A lot has to go right but at least I have somewhat of an answer other than hoping to discard the enchantment before it hits the battlefield.

Used this as the skeleton of deck:

Then I swapped the lilis with karn and went from there
