Deck Description

Super Fast Budget Aggro Zombies V2

This deck is all about curving out and never leaving a mana source untapped. We are a zombie beatdown deck that has sacrifice, recursion, burn, and -1/-1 synergies.

Thought process:
* Treasures be lit
* We want an abundance of creatures and one drops to help curve out and keep up early pressure.
* The more zombies we have in play the better our zombie payoffs become.
* Mid-Late game our equipments make our cheap 1 drops more threatening and serve as insurance against flooding out (mana syncs).
* We are playing a full set of Gempalm polluter instead of Shepard of Rot because it is harder for the opponent to interact with.
* Because we are an aggro deck, with a low land count, I omitted Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Our equipments provide us with more than enough cards to poor mana into during the late game that are can still be played on curve. I also found nameless Inversion to be quite underwhelming if you were wondering why it is omitted from this build.
* There are many themes and angles of attack layered into this deck, with the main theme being beatdown. We don't want too many copies of the sub-themed synergies because it will take away from the main theme as well as other themes. For example a one mana two for one (ghoulcaller's chant) is very very very good, but gets extremely worse in multiples. Imagine having an opener with an equipment, gempalm, and 2 ghoulcaller's chants. It doesn't sound that bad on the surface, but top decking 1 drop weenies for the rest of the game is going to be very weak in comparison to whatever the opponent is top decking.

Feel free to leave a comment! This deck is super fun and very competitive. Definitely a unique way to enter the pauper format!

How to Play

Sideboard notes:
* When developing a sideboard, people sometimes tend to get too cutesy and want answers to everything which I often fall into the trap of. Our aggro beatdown theme has a chance against every deck which was an important realization for myself. I managed to find a nice balance of cards that slot into our beatdown theme, while still improving the deck's chances against graveyard synergies which are pretty popular in pauper. Also overthinking sideboard in between games can get complicated so it's nice to just have an easy formula to follow.

Versus graveyard decks:
Sub IN - 4 crypt breaker, 2 ghoulraiser, 2 bojuka bog
Sub OUT - 2 sepulcher ghoul, 2 lazotep reaver, 2 equipment, 1 swamp, 1 village rites

Match up dependent:
Duress, verdict, swarm can be subbed in for anything, but I would first look at defile, ghoulcallers chant (maybe they sideboard in graveyard hate), and an equipment or two.

To reiterate my previous points, subbing in too many of these cards can be detrimental. A 19 land aggro deck requires a very strict balance so I wouldn't be actively trying to sideboard these cards in. With that being said, their applications can be very useful in some situations (ei: boggles, sweepers, pestilence, etc). As a general format to follow try not to sub in more then 5ish of these 7 cards. Playing with the deck will give you a better understanding of what I am trying to say if it is hard to understand.

Deck discussion for Pauper Zombie V2

Nice deck mate! Zombie lover over here.
I have a suggestion: Shepherd of rot is a must in any zombie pauper deck, as well as Gempalm polluter. Maybe instead of the Plague Wights and Ghastly Gloomhunters.

Hey thanks for the suggestion! I currently have 4 gempalms in the build (not sure if you missed that or you’re just comparing the 2 cards), but this version is more of a beat down deck then most pauper zombie burn decks. I have tried shepherd of rot but it is oftentimes to slow against control (can just be killed before you can untap) or the self-inflicting damage is too detrimental vs. aggro. The plague wights are surprisingly very good in this deck because they have synergy with all of the other -1/-1 effects (festering mummy, grim physician, defile), and not to mention if they are equipt with a bone splitter they can trade up for a 5 toughness creature (really op for 2 mana!). The gloom hunters give us an evasive threat that can help push damage through with bone saws, and the lifelink can come up clutch in certain match ups.

I think having shepherd of rots in the sideboard instead of crypt creeper would be completely reasonable. Just personally have been underwhelmed with it against the S tier pauper decks that have plenty of 2 for 1s built into them, oftentimes completely wrecking us if we are not fast enough. I prefer the gempalms because they replace themselves, are easy to get back with recursion, and are very difficult to interact with.

Basically the plague wights and gloom hunters have better synergy with my equipments. More or less that’s why they fit this pauper build a bit better then the more standard zombie pauper decks.
