Deck Description

I am new and only been playing MTG for about 1 month now. My first attempt at putting together a life gain deck that might let me have a little more fun playing with my buddies who constantly kick my but. Just figured this idea would keep me around long enough to really enjoy it but not necessarily win. Any cheap card suggestions to replace anything I have? This deck is kinda meeant to be annoying as hell. Remember this is my very first attempt at putting a deck together.

Deck discussion for Newbie Life Gain

What's your win condition? Sure, having tons of life is great, assuming you even get that far, but you still have to kill your opponent. As it is, you've got one creature that could potentially be any larger than a power of 2. That means it would take just about twenty cards to deal the twenty damage to kill your opponent. Your Pridemate might be able to get bigger than that, but he's got no way to get through. No trample, no evasion, no nothing.

So you're going to need some potential threats on the table. The specifics are up to you. Archangel of Thune can be devastating in a good life gain deck, but it sounds like that's a bit out of your budget.

The main takeaway is all about endgame. How are you going to defeat your opponent? Probably by bringing their life total to 0. How will you go about that? If the only scenario where that happens is when you play nearly every creature in your deck, and your opponent has absolutely no defenders... that's not a good place to be.

All else said, glad to see you're looking to start learning early on! It wasn't until years after I started playing that my deck-building actually started shaping up. You're on the right track. Keep trying, experimenting, seeing what works. Use online resources. There's a ton of great articles out there on the basics of mana curve, card advantage and card economy, and so forth. Good luck!

Thank you very much. I was looking at that as well. Do you think it would be possible with this deck to keep drawing with Immortality till the other player draws out?

Honestly? I doubt it. I watched a game that went on almost long enough for someone to draw themselves to death. It involved massive blockage, but in the end the player playing life gain, who at one point had 80+ life one point, lost. And he'd only been able to hang on that long due to his own massive wall of flying Spirit tokens. Unless you're actually playing mill, I'd never count on the player drawing themselves to death. Unless you're playing the Spike Feeder/Sunbond combo, that is...

I updated my deck. I think I made it a little better until I can get some money into to make it even better.

Changes look good! A cheap card I might also consider is Sunbond. That thing can be a huge pain to play against in the right deck.

I updated the deck to hopefully have a better kill factor. I only had one sunbond in my collection so far to add but I am on the look out for more. Thanks for the input.
