Deck Description

This was the second deck I made back in the day - not very creative, but it is still pretty good for casual play, even against many "power-creep" modern decks. Simple tribal deck: bring out as many elves as possible and overrun your opponent(s).

Suggestions for how to incorporate better cards - or how to update it in order to make it legal in Modern/Extended/Standard - would be very welcome!

How to Play

Use Seeker of Skybreak to untap-then-tap-again Wellwisher for life, and Timberwatch Elf to pump up attackers. Use Taunting Elves (or Treetop Scout) to get the damage across to the opponent. Wirehood Hivemaster can provide insect tokens with which to block attacks. Elvish Guidance and Sprouting Vines accelerate your mana, and Tribal Unity usually wipes out enemy creatures or deals enough damage for a relatively quick victory. If the game goes as far as playing an Ambush Commander, victory then usually comes the next turn. If things get stalled late in the game, Elvish Soultiller can resupply the library with cheap elves again. The single non-elf creature, Forgotten Ancient, is just too good not to use.

Deck discussion for Vintage Elves

maby its just the group i play with but i run into all is dust and sacrofice decks a lot so im coming from that angle.

i would take out the ambush comander bc it makes your lands vunurable.

I forget what the card is called but its a sorcery in the new pherexia set that gives all your atacking cards infect untill the end of the turn. Its a nice way to insta kill someone.

Thanks for replying with this feedback, vernock. You're right that Ambush Commander would leave me vulnerable to All is Dust and other spells that wipe out creatures. But these spells are usually sorceries, and usually when my Ambush Commander comes into play I am able to wipe out the opponent that very same turn (with the combination of Elvish Guidance and Tribal Unity, or even just a couple of Heedless Ones and the normal effect of the Timberwatch Elf and Seeker of Skybreak). Now, for multiplayer it wouldn't be so easy, but I'm still not too worried. What I might actually add are a couple of Elvish Archdruids or Joraga Warcallers (like you've got), replacing Alpha Status and Wirewood Heralds.

Given that you encounter decks with lots of sacrifices as you say, I can see why you keep the Tajuru Preservers.

The card that you mention here is Triumph of the Hordes. I wasn't playing when this set came out, and I'm surprised to find such an awesome tribal card in that set! I thought it was basically all artifacts, but the infect mechanic here does give tribal decks one for the victory! I might throw one of those into my elf deck indeed!
