Deck discussion for Vampire Aggro

Why only one Sorin? Also.. why not any fecth lands? U need to run AT LEAST 4 of them( replacing your swamps with them), that way it will thin out your deck, and you are more likely to draw something needed, after u have sacrificed the fetch land, brought out a swamp and shuffled...

ahhh verdant catacombs allows the swamp to come in untapped and it requires no additional mana to be tapped.

very smart, i didn't think of verdant catacombs

But why the Verdant Catacombs at all? What advantage does it give you over having Swamps in their place? You're using an all black deck, so it's not like you need to go searching for another color, so it's just a wasted of one life. Name one scenario where drawing Verdant Catacombs is more beneficial than drawing a Swamp.

run:

+ 4 marsh flats
+ 4 verdant catacombs

+ 16 swamps

get rid of duress, it's a sideboard card, run disfigure.

bloodchief ascencion is a card you shold drop too.

Actually, fetch lands don't do anything to thin out a deck (there is an article somewhere on Star City Games which explains the details). All they do is fix your mana.

I dont see how they could possibly NOT thin out your deck

drawing a swamp is one card

drawing a fetch land is one card then searching your library for another and then shuffling is a total of two cards

your probabiliy on avg drops from 3/59 - 3/58 assuming no hand draw has occurred just for 1 swamp search

3/59 = 5.08475%, while 3/58 = 5.17241%, a difference of 0.08766%. The difference is so negligent that an effect won't be noticed for dozens or even hundreds of games. The shuffling, on the other hand, plays a much more significant role in affecting what you draw over the course of a game. Using fetch lands in a monocolored deck is just stupid.

if it gives the player a benefit, i don't see any reason not to use it, the shuffling also helps greatly, i don't see why you wouldn't want to use it though, if you're talking in terms of price then yes i agree with you, as the average man i wouldn't spend $15 a pop on those cards, but if i were playing in tournaments, there's no reason not to try and give myself the best chance to win

Here's the real reason why they use fetch lands in vampire decks.

Ex.
Opponent at 10 life.
You're going to die next turn.

On the field you have Vampire Nocturnus, Blood Ghast and Gate Keeper of Malakir.
The opponent has 3 blockers, none with flying.

UPKEEP, draw.. then the ENTIRE GAME LIES IN NOCTURNUS' NEXT FLIP.
your top card is a land. your vampires do not gain +2/+1 and flying.
it's all over.... WAIT! you have a fetch land! OMG! there's still a chance!!!!
You tap and sac for a swamp... shuffle your library, flip the new top card of your library and it's black!! OMG! you win.

that's why.
