Deck Description

Imagine the look on your friends faces when they realize a bunch of defenders killed them. Not enough you say? Well then, i'll just tell you that on TCG Player you can get this deck for less than $20! That makes this a budget deck!!! Still not enough? Well that's all i got.

Non Budget Version: http://www.mtgvault.com/gykx/decks/death-by-defender-not-budget/

More win con version http://www.mtgvault.com/gykx/decks/death-by-defender-x-win-cons/

How to Play

There are a few ways to set up the defender kill.

Method One: Axebane Guardian enchanted with Freed from the Real and at least one other defender on the field. With this you can tap and untap Axebane Guardian endlessly for infinite Mana.

Method Two: Axebane Guardian soulbound to Galvanic alchemist and at least three other defenders on the field. With this you can tap and untap Axebane Guardian endlessly for infinite Mana.

Method Three: Axebane Guardian equipped with Umbral Mantle and at least three other defenders on the field. With this you can tap and untap Axebane Guardian endlessly for infinite Mana.

With any of these set up, just use Diabolic Tutor to find and(or if you already have it in your hand by then) cast Fireball to kill your opponent! And all their creatures if you really want to rub it in their disbelieving face!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's the point in diabolic tutor if the only card you're going to search for with it is a fireball... why not just have another fire ball. Diabolic tutor is a card designed to set up more complicated combos. This is a relatively simple combo. 2 of them would suffice. If not none, and then you wouldn't need the golgari guild gates.

im not only tutoring for fireball, i can generate 2 black mana to drop it with just axebane and one other defender on the field, i may also need to search for galvanic alchemist, umbral mantle, or freed from the real to get the infinite going

You know, I really love this deck.
While may want more Fireballs, it's decks like these that make me love MTG.

Add door to nothingness. With axebane guardian it's very possible to kill someone with it. My friend did it to me.....

Door only kills one person fireball kills everyone and everything

Yes but when someone nevermore or slaughter games fireball that's it. Or even counter. I'd just add some options yanno?

it would be a good idea to take this guys advice and add in more options.

this deck is countered with 2 counterspells, i would suggest banefire instead...

0

Devil's play would be better. Banefire is only good against control. Banefire should be sideboard. But of course this is budget, and fireballs are cheap and most people have them laying about so you have to think about that.

Doorkeeper from ravinca!
it provides you with an additional win con, paired with the door to nothingness (as someone already suggested) your win cons are 3!
and definitively go for banefire!

RE Banefire - cost is prolly why not. Perhaps in a non budget...? I know I will definitely add it!!

0
Posted 27 July 2013 at 04:46

Provided you have the infinite mana going and a bunch of defenders the only thing that can stop you is a counter spell. That's why I will suggest Overmaster. Banefire too but that has already been suggested. But with Overmaster, you can keep your ultimate win card and still keep it from being countered. I also like Hired Torturer.

This deck is a hard to use. U don't need fireball. Use nimbus swimmer to win the game, it's easier to play when u don't have the combo. Try more x cost cards, cause u probably will not won a control deck this way

overgrown battlement, while not as versatile as axebane, could work. if you can't draw axebane, use the above combos just adding one izzet guildgate to the calculation. and to deal with anti-flying, which you said was an issue, try levetation. then EVERYTHING has flying. and while you're at it, try circle of protections in the sideboard, particularly red. if you can get infinite mana, you can get infinite defense.

Idk, i guess it's because this a deck that contradicts the normal restrictions of magic, i.e defenders can't kill an opponent. People like decks and ideas that utilize something in a way in which it was never intended to do.

I like the idea of all of these different defender abilities, but I was thinking a wall of frost/miming slime combo. it goes against the idea of only having defender creatures, but the deck would be way more powerful. replace the galvanic alchemists with them.

0
Posted 11 July 2013 at 18:46

that wouldn't work in this deck unless it was after axebane was superpowered with Umbral Mantle cause mimng slime goes of power, not toughness

so, i'll just have to save 2 counterspells for your fireballs? you should at least use banefire instead if that's the only winning condition in your deck..

True. :P
Blaze? Or is that only to creatures?

0
Posted 17 July 2013 at 17:53

ok then maybe add the vent sentinel, get overgrown battlement + helix pinnacle if it's cheaper. and maybe tinder wall or orochi leafcaller.

the important thing is you may want to add some other threat to your opponent rather the only single axebane guardian.

0
Posted 17 July 2013 at 18:24

ive thought about it and the thing with this deck is if you've never played against one like it, you're not going to know what to expect, so if all you see is defenders you don't necessarily know what the hell is going on and dont figure it out til you and all your creatures get fireballed.

2
Posted 17 July 2013 at 19:38

lol haha yup.

0

My defender deck was kind of similar to this
I was using Ludovic test subject as a defender and lategame he becomes a 13/13 trample
and also Mentor of the Meek, everytime a creature with less then power 2 enter the battlefield, I can draw a card, and all defender are less then 2 power, with the kind of combo you have you can fill the board really quickly

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 13:46

I also have mind grind, with the mana produce by the defender, I usually mill the oponent to death in a single spell

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 13:50

i realize there are many other ways to kill and win with defenders, the main point of this deck was to show a unique way to use defenders to win with out spending tons of money. The infinite mana was just something unique for people to see that may have never seen before or thought truely possible

alchemist is one of the triggers for infinite mana combo

0
Posted 25 July 2013 at 16:58

please come up with more ways to trigger infinite mana and incorporate them into your deck.

0
Posted 25 July 2013 at 17:01

there are only 3 to trigger with axebane in standard, another that now exists but would not work in this deck, is to have a total of at least 4 mutavaults and or awaken the ancients on your field, then exile ready // willing onto elite arcanist when you cast him, infinite mana and indestructible creatures

0
Posted 25 July 2013 at 17:07

I'm going to see about making my own version of this, please give me pointers when i'm done, i'm trying to stay within my own collection for most of my decks.

0
Posted 25 July 2013 at 17:11

could you try to think of ways to get infinite mana between these cards, axebane guardian, and a buttload of defenders? add some other cards if necessary.
Village bell-ringer, burst of strength, vigean graftmage, niblis of the breath

0
Posted 25 July 2013 at 18:51

Niblis works if freed from the real is on it. Vigean works with axebane and at least 2 other defenders, village bell-ringer could work if you had cloudshift or ready // willing, exiled on elite arcanist. i dont see anyway with burst of strength.

0
Posted 26 July 2013 at 00:45

My version won't be nearly as good as yours, as the only combo's I can use are the Vigean and the bell-ringer/cloud-shift. thanks for the ideas though!

0

take out the red lands and somehow squeeze in some more deck search/draw card. in theory you should only be using fireball once axebane guardian is around, and he can make any color of mana, including red.

0
Posted 25 July 2013 at 17:07

The red lands are in there because ive come across a few several games where my axebanes got killed off, but i could still fireball with my land for the win.
