You want to play? That's cute

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

So this deck is major gimmicky but the real theoretical effectiveness is too good to pass up. See the how to play for what it is.

How to Play

Use axebane guardian and defenders to mana ramp.

When you cast Elite Arcanist, exile Silence from your hand. Play silence at the beginning of your opponents turn. If you have 2 out you can control them completely!!!!

With your opponent only able to draw and play on your turn, throw out the big creatures to kill them.

Turn 1: Forest
2: Island and Murmuring Phantasm
3: Forest and Axebane (fog f needed)
4: Plains, Elite Arcanist, Exile Silence (fog if needed)
5: Island, Elite Arcanist, Exile Silence, Angelic Wall/Murming Phantasm/gatecreeper (fog if needed)

instead there must be better draw card instead of divination something that would let you draw on your oppenents turn so you can have mana for your arcanist or fog

Love the concept, though I'm afraid of what could happen if they happen to burn out your Axebane Guardian and you're holding Niv/Utvara. Maybe some Gates with Red in them could be useful, to be fetched with Gatecreeper

0

hmm fair enough, ill make 6 of the other 3 and 2 gates with red

a better lock combination would be Possibility storm and Curse of Exhaustion, as they truly cannot cast anything anymore, whereas with silence or whatever if you come up against a blue deck with counters the combo might not work.

3
Posted 18 July 2013 at 02:00

They still get to cast one spell, where here i can theoretically lock them completely

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 02:03

Curse of Exhaustion could be a good backup, since if you're playing against control they only get 1 spell per turn, in case your Silence gets countered or the mage dies. It also keeps you from banking too heavily on a single creature with a single spell.

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 02:41

Nono they cast a spell and because of possibiity storm the spell gets exiled, and then they search for a spell in their library for a spell that shares the same type, and cast it for free. But becasue of curse of exhaustion they do not get to cast it at all. With Silence if they have any instant speed spells they can play them on top of silence.

1
Posted 18 July 2013 at 02:56

well the one spell they do get to cast for sure with possibility storm and that could be death where as instants have a much harder time of doing that

-1
Posted 18 July 2013 at 02:59

when you have both enchantments out, they do not get to cast anything at all, they cast the spell then it is exiled off the stack and because they can't cast more than one spell a turn via curse of exhaustion they are locked down with nothing but what is on the field

1

Daylight speaks the truth.

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 03:42

the opponent can still cast spells while silence is on the stack, so it is not a complete lock, making posibility storm/curse of exhaustion a better lockout. I have a buddy running a Possibility storm deck. it doesnt win often, but its funny when it does.

i think murmuring phantasm could come out for wall of frost as an even bigger roadblock with more utility. also, why play divination when forbidden alchemy is standard? either way, great deck, seems fun +1

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 02:43

I like having those 2 drop defenders, easier to get out, and forbidden alchemy will be cycling out in september, this is made with m14 and return to ravnica block only

0

in that case, would rather have oppurtunity than sylvan primordial. that pure card advantage is king

1
Posted 18 July 2013 at 02:47

You could theoretically drop the Angelic Walls for Hover Barriers (I know it's 1cmc higher, but it's a 0/6 flier) and this would allow you to basically remove the Plains from the deck (since you'll want to be casting Silence through the Elite Arcanist, which is colorless) and solidify the manabase a little. You could use gates for the white mana in the event you need to hard cast Silence.

i think i agree so to Morgoth above Hover Barrier is in

0

ooo that mana curve got thrown off a bit though :/

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 02:55

im hoping itll be fine, plus this deck is a huge longshot anyways so i dont really mind

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 02:57

the more gimmicky the deck the more it needs to be on point with the curve in my experience. other goodstuffs decks can roll with it cause of their inherent card advantage, but you're playing with walls mate. consistency will win you more games than your gameplan unless elite arcanist is just so mindblowingly broken that it doesnt matter.

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 03:03

Since it's a defender deck with its win-condition at the high end, I don't think the mana curve is going to be a problem. If this were an aggro/fast deck that wants to drop something every single turn I could see more cause for concern, but once that Hover Barrier lands, it's going to stop just about anything they can throw at you and is almost impossible to burn without wasting a damn good card.

0

good point. the axebane guardians do a lot of work in this deck

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 03:08

Precisely guys

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 03:15

The Axebane Guardians can definitely push out one of the 3 huge creatures rather quickly, while your walls hold things in place. It's possible that a very early aggro push could do some serious damage but if you can get up 2 or 3 walls you can probably keep yourself alive long enough to drop one of the monsters.

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 03:18

I don't know how no one has realized this yet. . but this combo is bad for the same reasons why iso-chant is bad. Sure you can play silence DURING THEIR UPKEEP, but they still have a chance to respond to the Arcanist activation. Any instant speed removal or bounce, and your combo is over. The fact that Arcanist is a 4 mana 1/1 pretty much guarantee's this combo is unplayable.

Note that you have to actually cast the silence during their upkeep. You can't just say "on the opponents turn" If its the opponents main phase he/ she has priority to play spells before you, so they could play anything they want before you have a chance to silence. and even if you play it during their upkeep they still have a chance to respond with an ability or instant speed spell of their own.

2
Posted 18 July 2013 at 03:38

They realize it, but It could still be fun, that's the point of it. Not just to win, fun as well

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 03:44

Fair enough. I cant deny its pretty cool a combo like this exists in standard now. >:D

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 03:54

That's also why there's the giant monsters at the top of the mana curve. If they spend their removal trying to stop you from getting the Elite Arcanist working, it'll clear the way for things like Utvara.

0
Posted 18 July 2013 at 03:58

Sure i get that. All i'm saying is that A) its not an actual "lock" and B) you have to be more precise when playing silence than just saying " on your turn i silence you" Unfortunately some knowledge of the stack and timing are needed, and i was only trying to help.

I don't see this deck being super competitive, though i admit the combo is pretty cool for standard. But like Daylight said, a real lock already exists in standard.

2
Posted 18 July 2013 at 04:04

I dont understand why someone posting "this is great idea lulz!!!' gets an upvote, but someone explaining how the card works so we dont have a standard format full of kids trying to use Silence like a counterspell gets downvoted....THAT, my friends, is whats wrong with this site.

fog bank is not strictly better than hover barrier. you seem to forget that its 0/2 makes it VERY vulnerable to Pillar, Shock, spear, ect. sure, fog bank absorbs all combat damage, but think about what happens between turn 2 and 3. not much. getting the extra 4 toughness on turn 3 can stop creatures up until about turn 6-7, when they can play something serious enough to hurt Hover Barrier, and its much tougher to burn out, costing 2 spears or 3 shocks...

1

i would much rather have 2 fog banks out by turn 3 then 1 hover barrier. But I agree with what u said. :)

Excellent concept on paper but very weak in game

You're not running any counterspells even though you're blue
AND
Your deck relies on elite arcanist which is a measly 1/1 without hexproof

Elite arcanist is a 4 drop

Any control decks running counterspells or removal can kill it with 2 mana with doomblade or essence scatter etc (some as little as 1 - elecktrickery and other 1 to cast burn/removal)
