No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Well is is my first deck. My buddy who has been playing since '98 helped me build out of a Deck builders toolkit and some boosters. I plan to keep it mono colored until I get more experience. I plan to start playing in some local FNM when I get better. What should I change? I also have a Rakdos Raid starter deck from Return to Ravnica I plan to pull some cards from to put in this deck. I'm not rich by any means but I have a good job and I'm 18 and live with my parents so I can afford most cards. Any opinions is highly appreciated!

How to Play

Can't really say much here. I've only played a couple matches so far. Still trying to figure out my style and how I like to play. I've won a couple matches with it against 2 buddies that have been playing for years so I'm doing alright I guess!

I presume you just put it together with cards you happened to have on hand. It'd be a good idea to condense it down to less cards in greater numbers. Higher predictability equals better deck

Try not to use only one of each card, because you're ruining the consistency of the deck. Meaning that rather than having a game plan, you're really just gonna be putting random creatures out and hoping for the best. Also, stay as close as you can to a 60 card deck, though you probably didn't need to hear that, seeing as how this deck is exactly 60. Other than that, try to find/get cards that work well together. Sure, your whole deck is black, but so what? How do these cards benefit each other or you? (I'm not actually being critical, I'm just saying how you should be thinking when you make a deck) You'll get better as you play though, so don't sweat it if you start off slow.

Start off slow? Look at that mana curve, look at that mana count, look at that removal. Best damn beginner build period. For black that is. It really doesn't matter what the cards are or what you run, as a beginner deck builder, its best to get the land count, mana curve, and concept colors right. Anything other than that, is really asking too much. Considering you don't have the cards, don't have the experience, and you don't have the exposure to how people play.

Thanks man. I'm pretty proud of the deck myself. I just haven't got to really play a lot yet to refine it. In a few minutes I'm gonna take apart the Rakdos Raid deck and see what I could use in my black deck. And take the red cards out of it combine with my other red cards and build a decent red deck. Then when I get more experience I have a few cards that would work great with a red/black deck so I will combine my two.

Thanks everyone. And you are right when you said it was built with cards on hand. I don't have many cards yet. And i will be changing the creatures dramatically when I get some more cards. Like a few of you suggested, I also plan to have 3-4 of the same creatures. But I'm going to wait and see which creatures I really like and which ones can go. I may switch to a different color when I really figure out what I wanna do. I picked black because I loved the zombies/vampires and that they cause a lot of death all over the board.

I can't stand black decks. That's just my preference. I build them though, just so I get a first hand feel about how they play.

I am a white deck, control player personally. I can't stand the simplicity of aggressive decks, and there is too much at stake to be running infinite combo, but I do fall for a good tempo deck (plays a spell every turn, a sort-of mix between aggro and control) every once in awhile.

It's funny that you say that cause no matter how hard I try to make a control deck, I always just end up having some sort of aggro lol. Please give me some tips on how to make a control deck

I may end up hating black decks. Lol I just don't really know what I like a lot at this point. I'm still getting used to everything and figuring out my style of play. I've only been playing for about 10 days but I don't get to play everyday. I just did a few changes to my black deck and I'll finish building my red one tomorrow and post them. Thinking of going to my first fnm this Friday and seeing what I can learn.
