Deck Description

Ah, here we are. Another Nicol Bolas deck once again, and MUCH more effective now with more draw power and discard from the hand, which means more of a chance for obzedat's aid to my hand.

How to Play

OK, so I might as well put this somewhat useless topic to use and tell all the ones who never saw this kind of deck how to use it.

Simple: Whenever it's milling, drawing, or discarding, you always want to have a Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker / Stormtide Leviathan in the graveyard and, especially, an Obzedat's Aid in hand before turn 5. Before turn 5, you could reanimate Nicol Bolas or Stormtide and stop their attacks temporarily or steal their creatures if they're going aggressive on you. Simple right? Not really.

It's still hard to manage a 5-color control deck thats so casual it doesn't fit with the Standard Metagame. You know this, almost everyone has a sideboard consisting of graveyard hate, and I can't really handle against that. Sure, the deck isn't completely vulnerable against Rest in Peace and Tormod's Crypt, but it will still be harmed by it.

Still, it manages surprisingly well when you begin the game with a Faithless Looting or mill spell, then when having an Obzedat's Aid in hand, things get really good.

It's strange that I gave up such good decks like Esper Control for this. Infact, it seems really dumb when the Innistrad block is fading out and this deck's price is now $150 instead of around $300. So why would I do such idiotic mistake? I just got sick of milling people and it just didn't work after that. It was losing to aggro decks (you know, the ones with Strangleroot Geist and Falkenrath Aristocrat) and it just did pathetic. It overall came to this in which it was not only a good deck, but one to play for fun as well.

So enjoy the deck now! Please, if you have any opinions of this deck, then please comment below! :)

Deck discussion for Bolas Control V3

This deck makes my head spin. That said, I think it could be decent. Just one question, why go 5 color instead of just the grixis wedge. That particular color blend is pretty awesome by itself.

Well with all 5 colors, I have green and white to go along with Grixis. Green can help me mill in terms of Mulch and with the white, I can reanimate very well with Obzedat's Aid and Unburial Rites (Flashback). Actually, on the topic of Grixis, Adding Breaking // Entering wouldn't be a bad idea and then losing the 2 colors. mill with blue spells and then reanimate. But then what planeswalkers besides Nicol Bolas? Jace, Memory Adept? Ral Zarek? Tibalt- ok no. Still, I did go 5 colors because the addition of white and green make this deck more versatile. I have gotten a step to doing this by taking out the green in the deck and then it became Grixis with white. Mill spells were Faithless Looting and Forbidden Alchemy, and reanimation spells were still the same. I only tried it for a little while, and then I just went back to using all 5 colors. At least another advantage is that I get to put all my multicolored land to use instead of rotting in my binder.

I suppose. There is just too much going on for me. I would, were I you, either go mill or reanimater, but not both.

well wouldn't you need to mill so you can have a graveyard to reanimate?

I usually stick to removal.

Remove the threat and then make it your threat

True, but there's one problem with that: What good removal can go in my deck that I can have to my hand without the risk of milling it? Besides, if I want to get rid of a threat and then make it my own, Bring out Nicol Bolas or Ulti Sorin and steal their creatures. Removal is sometimes in my deck in terms of planeswalkers.

I suppose. I just have a hard time making 5 color work. Im glad it works for you here though. Have you thought about trying a better big threat than the Leviathan. Since you're running all the colors I am sure you can find better. Aetherling for example.

I have tried AEtherling once, but when I did, I usually didn't have the mana for his effects because I always kept tapping for everything else. I might try it again.
