Modern Aggressive Donation

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (0 cards)

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Modern Format - The idea here is to donate Aggressive Mining and destroy/bounce their lands, maybe grabbing a creature or two from them in the process.

Puca's Mischief and Daring Thief provide the donations. The bounce is good if you get stuck with the AM or if you run into something nasty that needs to go away.

Artful Dodge and the bounce are there to protect the Thief.

Icefall, Volcanic Awakening, and Avalance Riders provide the outright land destruction, and Reverberate is there to enhance the bounce/destruction.

So far, it costs about $100, with most of the cost from the nonbasic lands, which can always be tailored.

How to Play

I have not tested it yet, but will try ASAP. (As of 6/23/14)

Plan:
Early game - Bounce land or mana producing permanents as needed to keep them from establishing a solid mana base.

Mid Game - Get Puca or Daring Thief (or both) into play, and then get Aggressive Mining into play. Now, depending on what they've played, you can go with either card. Point is, DON'T PLAY AGGRESSIVE MINING UNLESS YOU CAN DONATE IT OR DEAL WITH IT.

Late Game - Continue locking down their mana base. Use the Ember Swallower or the Red Sun's Zenith as your win condition. Burn out 'em out with the RSZ, or use the ES and monstrosity it to further kill their lands. You can save some bounce/evasion for your ES to better destroy your opponent. You even play Aggressive Mining on yourself to draw into a win condition or a response to a threat!

I have not put together a sideboard yet because:

- I haven't tested this deck out at all yet.
- I haven't been following the metagame well, so I'm not sure what kind of hate I would need to sideboard in for a given archetype.

Caveats:
1) I'm not really sure if the win condition is solid enough. I feel like there should be more win conditons than 4 cards, but since RSZ goes back into your deck and hopefully they have very little mana, it may be all that you need. Furthermore, Ember Swallower does have a sizeable amount of fat, especially when he gets monstrous. Despite the fact that he kills 3 of your lands, he also kills 3 of THEIR lands, and given the direction this deck is taking, that should hose them rather spectacularly.

2) I think Detritivore would be a good idea here, but I'm not sure yet how best to use him.

3) I'm not that keen on the mana base. I think I could do better on the lands, so that's a work in progress too.

Thanks for reading!

tl;dr get rid of their land, give them aggressive mining, get rid of more of their land, then kill them.

Thanks for the feedback!
I just changed it a bit this afternoon. With the 8 cards in place that are the ONLY way to donate AM, it needed a way to protect the Daring Thief. Question is whether it would be better to give it a tap ability or use a twiddle enchantment/artifact vs evasion. I went with the evasion route, and I think I can hold onto some instant speed bounce if needed. We'll just have to see what happens.
Truth is, if the deck is working right, they shouldn't have the mana open to do anything about the Daring Thief or Puca's Mischief! :)

Also (as of 7/23 1300) I have posted how I think the deck should be played.

Feedback is always appreciated!
